Featured Projects The creatures Chevy truck

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by The Chevy Pope, Jan 19, 2025 at 8:36 PM.

  1. Just starting this because my 15 year old step daughter decided she wants a truck when she gets her license. Showed her a pic of a flat black 51 Chevy pickup and she fell in love. And luckily 47-54 Chevy trucks are cheap. So I told her if she got a job and a license I'd help her out one together. Be awhile till it's hopped up as she'll be learning to drive. So body and trim will start out rough and get nicer as her driving ability improves. She'll also have a major hand in the build. Basically an announcement we have another one in the fold lol. Kinda figured she was open to the idea as she's been known to use pics of my 53 bel air to try and impress boys at school lol.

  2. I think I'm going to have her make an account here to lurk until we start getting actual parts for it. Thinking we'll use the old aftermarket steering wheel I had in the 53 in it

Make sure power steering and power brakes.

  4. As much as it'll make me cringe that was the plan. It will be her daily driver. I MIGHT be able to talk her out of AC if I show her how ugly they look in a vintage truck lol. One nice thing is she's tall so I won't have to put a gaudy tilt column in it.

Hoping your project goes better than mine did. I still have a 51 sitting in the shop that was supposed be my youngest sons. Anyway, we have done plenty of work on cars together including building engines, etc. But, that was likely too big of a project for my son at the time. Hoping we can get to it someday still.

You know, I had a high opinion of your intelligence up until this one. :D
Maybe you can sweet talk the mods to add a Young Guns tag, so the hooligans don't get too rambunctious.

  7. Oh I told her if she acts up in school or leaves me to do it all I'll sell it and use the $ to take her mother out for a weekend lol

  8. Trust me she's feral. And I'm going to make her lurk without posting till at least when we get a truck. Lurk without posting aside from complimenting builds of course. She wants to learn to be a petroleum primate and body and paint slinger so I'm teaching her like I would if she was a dude lol

  10. Dude.... totally my intent on teaching her lol

  11. I've already told her when we get a significant portion of the truck she can have the old steering wheel I had in the 53 till I swapped to the red metal flake wheel. And likewise with the cheap three bar speedway flipper caps currently on the 53 when I upgrade

  12. Oh and she agreed that the username "the creature" is a good one for her. If she ever gets off the phone with her lil boyfriend she'll set up an account lol

OK, Creature, are you here? Welcome aboard! I have a daughter that although she isn't into cars, loves making things, and took to welding very naturally. I love my shop time with her. Girls can play too.

Just a friendly reminder, we owe a lot, to all of the women that did a lot of amazing jobs for the war effort in WW-2 !

Looks like she may have to get creative with something in addition to "creature". :D

  16. Good for you Pope! This is exactly what my dad did for me, except for the fact that he bought my truck when I was 14 and drove it for a year with the 250 in it. Then we pulled it off the road at 15 to swap a 265/4-speed in. Drove it our at 16. Kept me out of a ton of trouble growing up!

As for the "Creature" moniker, may I suggest "MizCreature" (or some form of), for both her being female AND being from Missouri.

Well, the obvious choice would be to combine PU and creature, but there it is, harassing a teen.

DA - for dual action sander or slang The = DA Creature
Could always change it to K, for the Kustom touch = Kreature
Could spell it phonetically. = Kree chur
    From Missouri = Misery Creature

Don’t forget Shirley Muldowney or Shirley Shanahan!
    The Creature would also work.

  23. And the first official piece for the truck. Hand me down wheel from my 53 lol. Guess the 54 Chevy headlight bezels could end up on there if she can drive without hitting stuff lol IMG_20250120_172044_HDR.jpg

  24. What's nice is they're actually a fairly cheap truck to build. Just heard back on a super clean cab and doors with decent glass..... honestly unsure on what year it is but I believe 51. He told me $750 with title. Till we can find a deal on a bed it'll likely be a flatbed

  28. It'll be low once she learns how to drive it. It'll still be significantly lower than stock to begin with
