  1. I may have read but don't remember. How long did the restoration take?

  4. Man what a great restoration. Being born in 1978 the show circuit was long since dead and even the disco era boogey vans were showing their age by the time my memories start.
Cars like this are what got me into cars when I was a young child in the 1980s. I am glad you managed to save it because it was pretty far gone with some rare bits that were scarce even when the car was first built. Great job.

As a genuine car lover (obviously I like my old cars the most but I can appreciate all vehicles) What is crazy to me is nobody does stuff like this today, My parents and grandparents generation were amazing peops they built fiberglass buggies, T buckets, show rods like this and all kinds of of other awesomeness. Today I can't think of anybody building a 21st century version of a bubble top car or some outlandish show car or even some customized new car that smooths them out and makes them longer lower wider appearing. Even the mini truck trend where we saw some cool customized stuff was probably 25+ years ago now. Today people black out the trim and call it customized and I've always wondered why.
Anyways I'm getting off track Great job restoring that car, I hope it inspires young kids when they see it like it did in the 1960s and 1970s.

So I went up in the attic and got this old project out of mothballs. The rear body panel from the car when I restored it , this was cut off because it was all wrong for the dream rod. I built a framework for it with key slot holes so it can hang on the wall. The Tiger shark was Orange pearl so that’s what color I will paint it. I have the original tail light and the opening that the exhaust came through will have some acrylic shelves that I can display a model car and some hot wheels on

Maybe someone would like to buy that tail and recreate the Tiger Shark?

So I trimmed up the back of the opening and made a white acrylic backer and some clear acrylic shelves. Tried them out with a beatnik bandit model just because it was handy. I guess I am going to have to build a tiger shark model. IMG_2522.jpeg IMG_2523.jpeg IMG_2524.jpeg IMG_2527.jpeg

Now you'll have to collect a bunch of models of that version too, or do already have a bunch?

believe it or not it is on in the pictures. I used LED's because the can isn't very deep, but with them on the back of the can facing the lens it looked way too modern. I ended up using a flexible strip around the perimeter facing up on the bottom and down on the top. it is kinda dim but looks ok. I am going to hang it on the wall behind the Dream rod and it is not as bright in there , so it should show up better...

One of my Kustom highlights was having dinner with you at the Starbird show at the Lake. We were sitting in his back yard and you had brought your Dream Rod photo album. You walked me through the pictures and amazed with your attention to the smallest detail. Wow! This was an incredible restoration and thank you for going to the extremes to make sure its right. Respect

thanks man... I always figured that if you tried real hard on all the details that you know about that they will overshadow the ones I missed....

@Moriarity , I hope you are with us for a long time.
That said, I also hope you tuck little notes into things like this so they are recognized as the treasures of the past that they are in the future. Way too many things are lost in time or worse, hucksters create icons from nothing but greed.

I had to roll the car ahead a little to be able to hang that Tiger shark display. The Dream rod has been in that spot for 15 years. All the tires had about 5-10 psi in them. Blew em up and moved it ahead as far as I could. It has been a while since I’ve seen the back of the car IMG_2759.jpeg IMG_2758.jpeg IMG_2756.jpeg

Do you have any plans to show the Dream Rod? I live on the north side of the Cities and would love to see it, or any of your other cars out at a show! I think I remember seeing the Zingers at an indoor show a long time ago?

Well worth the trip, no matter what the distance is. Mark is an awesome person and excellent host. My Wife and I stopped by last summer while traveling (it was on our list of places not to be missed), and we both thoroughly enjoyed the tour of his place and lunch at drive in afterwards. Ron
