    Correct^
I was relating something often heard in the pits. They had their tune up so dialed in they rarely backsided a piston or pinched a ring land so they hardly ever did any real work after a run. I guess you could say they had a very thoughtful and scienced out approach to running a fuel car.
If you’ve never seen it “The Surfers” is a great series on You Tube. There are around 50 videos and it was very well done and insightful.

The BayShore Library in Belmont Shore as seen on Jan. 12, 1960, shortly after its formal opening. Courtesy of the Long Beach Public Library.

    Hello,

The branch first opened in 1959. It was an amazing library for its draw as a cool locationon the corner leading to the main street in the downtown business area, that was our 2nd hang out/cruising spot as teenagers and drive through surfers on lunch break or southerly road trips.

No, that is not my friend’s 51 Plymouth surf Station wagon parked in front. He did not go in libraries as far as I know or knew. But, of all things, a girl we knew who lived in the Belmont Shore area took us to the new library a year later and it was an awesome place. The large glass windows faced the sun in the morning glassy surface of the bay just steps away.

By lunch time, the seats were taken facing the large blue water bay. By night time, the place was full of students and older folks just sitting around studying or looking out at the never ending view south, facing in the direction of Seal Beach.
upload_2025-1-26_4-16-38.png This is the view across the large Belmont Shore, Alamitos Bay waters from the bay windows of the library, located on Bayshore Avenue. It was a very nice view and drew a lot of folks to the prime seating near the large "BAY" windows.(pun intended) for those that sat there, it was difficult to study as there were a lot of distractions all over the place. Ha!

What drew us to the Alamitos Bay in the Summer was the gobs of students from all of the high schools in Long Beach. 5 regular high schools and one continuation high school. Most of the kids found scarce parking spots, just to get to lay out on the sandy beach from the library proper down to the handball courts on Bayshore Drive. In the early days, the street in front of the library was open all summer. Then due to overcrowding and a slowdown traffic congestion every day, the city government banned driving on the street until summer was over.

Then once summer was over and it went into the winter months of November/December, the latest draw to the Alamitos Bay came into play. The famous lighted, floating, Christmas trees on the bay. It was one of the most popular spots during the cold holiday months. It started out only on Alamitos Bay. Then as the popularity grew, so did the floating trees on other water locations in Long Beach. Now, they are on display all over the city’s lakes and water ways, with access for the general public.

Here is an “oldie” at low tide and no one on the sand, a photo opportunity on Alamitos Bay.

    Yep.

That one BBC with a dual plane looks a bit out of place, doesn’t it?
