According to the feature, he started with a '39 and had a '40 parts car. But, who knows... It's a pretty obscure car. I don't know that I've ever seen it before browsing that old mag this morning.
The rockers are why I featured it... The front end is clean, but a little strange... and we don't have an angle to judge the chop, but those rocker panels? Damn.

It’s pretty common for people to call 40 Standards 39s. I had 39 headlights in my 40 Standard sedan and a guy argued with me about it! This car has the common 39/40 standard hood, and 40 Standard dash, with Deluxe gauges. I’ve also seen cars titled back then as the year they were titled in, in other words, an early 40 model sold in 39 could be titled as a 39. Who knows? Cool car!

My favorite kind of Custom — subtle craftsmanship that builds to a singular design concept — nothing on the car looks out of place or screams “look at me”. Love it.
Really nice custom, not seen before. Locals don't say South Chicago or North Chicago. It's the Sout' Side or the North Side. The separation is geographic, but also overridden by whether you root for the Cubs or the White Sox.
