https://www.mooneyesusa.com/product-p/mp9600f.htm Personally I would rather run the mesh stainless screens, the ones you want are linked above but they look like they will eventually come apart and suck all of the filter material into the intake.
I have the mesh screens coming, but really don't want dust and dirt down carbs, I would think someone would use a decent material ? Thanks
I think most of these kinds of filters were shown to choke more than anything g which is probably why they are now harder to find
Ya, just watched some video's and it seem's they start choking them at around 4-5Krpm's, so would not make much difference normal street driving, everything has a trade off? I'd rather run a tad rich than have dirt in my fresh built motor, Thanks.
I do believe that the ones that worked “the best” of those options are the rubber sock ones that go over the scoop instead of the pucks. I believe that @Anderson is working on some insert filters, but I think he is also running up against the filters choking it to much
Real world testing on my roadster, I was surprised how little it takes to choke these carbs. Tried Stellings with old school stainless mess, Edmunds with newer "high flow/modern" filters and Muroc straight stacks. The straight stack flowed the best without any choking throughout the RPM range.
Good filters have a lot of square inches of filtering material. You either look cool and risk engine wear, or you have an ugly bigass filter on the carbs. Take your pick.
Thanks Tim, I agree with you, but Man are the ones that fit over the scoop UGLY-kind of defeats the purpose, if you hear of a decent puck style please yell at me, Thanks again.
A round paper filter that has an element at least 5" diameter, a few inches tall, and NOT covered by a cool looking chrome bell, would probably work pretty well.
The last time I just got a 6” open filter for the carb and tossed it in the trunk and put a scoop on when I was showing it. I think some screen door mesh with pantie hose over it could work well enough if your not in the habbit of going down dirt roads or fields being harvested
That much media will fall waaay short of being " adequate for a V8 engine , my lawnmower filter is larger than those . So you'd rather wash down the cylinder walls with excess gas to wear it out than allow dust in ?
well it would be some protection, there's a lot of guy's running just a dome screen for years, wondering why none have chimed in and said don't do it. **BTW I hope my car doesn't stir up as much dirt as my lawnmower does.
I ran these for 4 years ,no problem with fuel starvation. Simple open cell foam cut to fit. These carbs are 48’s…Bigger than 97’s but not as big as the Big 97’s
I used those puck filters on a 350sbc with progressive tri Rochester 2gcs as there aren’t any mesh domed inserts that fit. Took a drive from Chicago to NSRA Louisville, stopped halfway through and put the old filters back on. The medium used in those pucks was enough to run rich and have the gas gauge move quicker than it should’ve.
