I kinda like the roadster with the full hood other then the Moon tank in front along with the roadster pick-up; which I feel it needs brighter wheels. The '36 it really looks well put together and likely the winner, although I still believe anything newer than '34 needs fenders unless it is going around an oval dirt track. Probably shouldn't comment too much as a lot people did a lot of good work getting those cars there.
Funnily enough, I want to like the orange 32 with the cammer, but the wheels are just too shiney and so is the engine, for my tastes. I want to like the green 32 with the flattie, but there's something about it that doesn't quite work, and its not something I'm finding easy to put into words for some reason, can't quite explain why its not fizzing my bits?
The cab is actually a dark green, hard to tell in photos, the fenders are black. I shot a lot of photos with my camera that I haven't gone through yet, I hope the color came out in those.
It's a popularity contest. Don't care for the '36 at all but if your a darling of the social media set you'll get the wink from the judges and the trophy.
I used to think that myself. Then it was proven to me that was just a sore losers story. I'm just a small guy building for normal people. I happen to know a few that really are something in the Show World and that's what they build. A lot of my Customer projects I built are Show Worthy but not Show Cars. I built them to be driven and used, never a Show Car. Several years back I built a Super Comp car that's 1 year to new to post photos of here on the H.AM.B. but it still went to the Show in Race Car Class. This car was on an end wall display and 20 feet away in a Corner display was a friends Gasser also in Race Car class. It had just been a Cover Car on Hot Rod mag as well as center fold and a 4 page article and a shot of all the Trophy's it had already won. So we're in the running but I know who the winner is. WRONG, we took everything except best motor, that's because the car I built looked best with the Hood Closed. Personal Choice. I learned if you build a winning car you'll win. My friend and owner of the Gasser thanked me for letting him win at least one trophy,,, and we're still friends.
Thanks to all those that have taken the time to post their photos ! Amazing cars, and great financial undertaking, (also helping to keep others in business), - all contributing to a wonderful hobby. Thanks to @Ryan for allowing the off topic cars to be shown.
The Myers 'Rad Rides' built '36 will win, others are cool but can't compete with the level that roadster is at.
Ugh, the air cleaners on the orange entry, barf! I stopped running those in the 70's after a couple of carburetor backfires. Nasty. Rookie error. Those filters have burned down a lot of nice cars. I have shown dozens in the trash. Not on my cars.
Not disagreeing with you on the choice but that top, is it a lift off? I don't see how it can fold with SS trim all the way around. Looks sick! But I thought the tops had to retract for the AMBR?
There isn't a green or blue 32 (other than the green/black RPU. I'm guessing you're talking about the two 31's?
Yes, my mistake. Oh, and it's just 2 Orange, right? The cammer and the one with the filters thru the hood top.
Nothing in the rules about folding top only, Hard top is permissible if it is easy to remove, if fitted must be removed and placed during show, case in point Muroc roadster that won in 2020, similar when Foose 'Impression' won. The Hard top is preferred as drooping top isn't very aesthetically pleasing. Perfect rag top the Hollenbeck 2016 winner
Nope, there are 3 orange 32 highboys roadsters. The cammer, the filters through the hood, and one with a louvered hood top.
I've always wondered if there are any AMBR "Rules"? Tops /NO tops, Hoods, NO Hoods or 1/2 Hoods, Fenders, NO fenders. Do you gain points having things or not loose points for things your car doesn't have?
It's simply incredible to me that every year most of these high-dollar show cars don't appeal to the home builders here on the HAMB. Here's a 2017 AMBR contender I saw photos of for the first time this week that I'm really digging. Of course, it's brown with black wheels so a bunch of people will hate it because it's not black with red wheels.
The info is out there. You just have to ask Google. Photo below from the judges handbook. More info on the process from a magazine article at the link below. https://www.motortrend.com/events/g...cas-most-beautiful-roadster-ambr-gnrs-photos/
My friend painted the 32 roadster pickup.Even with his stellar work, I dont think it will win.To me it needs pinstriping or something to brighten it up. The rad rides built 36 roadster will probably win even though I dont think it deserves it.Needs fenders and too much unnecessary crap on it for me. You thoughts might vary
Two faves are the blue A and the banger pickup. I'd really love to see more if the interior and chassis details of the blue A if someone knows where to find pics.
well, I figured out why I don't fit in well here.....I have nothing bad to say about any of the cars pictured here... at least they got up off there ass built something and put it in the show...love looking at all the different ways people skin a cat.... and glad for that...
With all our collective knowledge here (make that Opinions) we should start a How to and What to list so the upcoming builders would have some guidelines towards a truly Correct and H.A.M.B. friendly A.M.B.R Winner. I mean,, you Guys just wait till I get back on my 50 Merc and 30 Roadster! That'll show em!
