Just caught this thread and I gotta' say that windshield is just the "nuts". Quite possibly the finest piece of craftsmanship I've seen in a long while. Keep up the great work. A true inspiration!

Heres the steering column and shaft.

Using pretty basic hardwere shop materials like exhaust tubing, weld-on bungs and oilite brass bushings.

Steering shaft is splined borgeson. The flange is old 1958 vespa rear hub flange what i had shelf.

Long-awaited part of the build was steering wheel.
At first i had in mind 50s steering wheels, one buick and one oldsmobile. But the 18 inch wheel diameter is just really big for channeled model a.
    In my taste at least.

So i started thinking other route, and ended up buying vw beetle steering wheel, because it has 15,5 inch

Cutting of the wheel off the hub and building my own IMG_20240905_202138.jpg IMG_20240905_202146.jpg

Hudson horn emblem looked cool and was avaible in ebay, so thats what im using. Horn ring was broken but does not matter because im only using the emblem. 20250131_124631.jpg 20250131_124616.jpg

Emblem has crackling efect from ageing, but it looks pretty cool

Got to say you workmanship is amazing. Such detail making welded parts look like they have been cast or forged.

I had bought this old ( maybe 40s ? ) bicycle headlight from swapmeet past winter.
    20250131_125431.jpg

That old bicycle headlight and hudson emblem was match made in heaven
    IMG_20240723_215013.jpg IMG_20240723_215300.jpg

There i had an route to start with.

Moving on to trim. Made from stainless steel. Same style as the dashboard trim.
    20241002_214132.jpg

    Bits and pieces. Everything made from stainless steel. 20250131_130451.jpg 20250131_130524.jpg 20250131_130556.jpg 20241006_145402.jpg 20250131_130632.jpg 20250131_130646.jpg

Welding was very tricky because that ribbed piece is made from very thin stainless steel sheetmetal, and has to be grinded and polished. 20250131_130704.jpg 20250131_130716.jpg 20250131_130730.jpg

And short cut to finished product. Lots of everything in between. Grinding, polishing, fill welding, grinding, polishing this x10. And figuring out how to mount everything.
That half loop horn ring is also from stainless steel, welded on. For looks only 20250131_130758.jpg 20250131_130826.jpg 20250131_130839.jpg 20250131_130855.jpg 20250131_130910.jpg 20250131_130934.jpg

It's almost as thin as tin foil, after all the grinding and polishing ! Couple Pinholes left but it keeps getting thinner and thinner every time. Time to let it be :D

Tattista or tattis :D Old Finnish slang word from swedish, Grattis or Tack, meaning in english Thank you :)

At final stage i'm going to paint the steering wheel. Maybe ivory white, or maybe some sweet candy.
