It was 65° in Ohio today, so I got the frame shot with epoxy primer. It's been tough getting motivated to do much with the cold snap we had for most of January. Back to 37° for a high tomorrow, but I've got front and rear suspension to disassemble and paint so I have things I can do without having warm weather, just need the motivation.
I've got a roller! Next step is put it on cribs, get the motor and trans cleaned and painted and get it in the frame.
A fucking comedy of errors later, motor and trans are in the chassis. Next, measure for a driveshaft and get the bottom of the body painted, Raptor lined and caulked so I can get it back on the chassis. Hopefully the weather cooperates.
Thanks! I get email from photobucket weekly telling me my pics will be deleted if I don't pay a monthly fee. I downloaded all the pics years ago, delete away and quit bothering me
That's always how it goes. When something goes together smoothly and without issue, I am instantly suspicious and begin looking for things to fall on me from a great height.
I had a ton of pictures in a fee Picasa account then one day they changed it. I lost most of them and lose more every time Mac does an upgrade to the photos.
It's a complete running chassis. If the rain ever stops, I'll swap garages with the body so I can get it ready to go back on the chassis. A tornado came through my neighborhood last Sunday. I didn't sustain any real damage other than trees down in the woods. The house shook and the roar and amount of shit hitting it was something I'd rather not experience again. I thought for sure the detached garage would be destroyed, along with the coupe body, but it didn't even lose a shingle. Here's to sunnier days ahead.
Time for an update. I spent my July 4th putting the body back on the frame. Alone of course. It's only sketchy if someone sees it happening. As it stands now, the body is attached for good, fuel system is plumbed, driveline is complete, and all frame brake lines are run. I've been working on my Willys to get it ready for the Bellefontaine Hillclimb end of August, but its almost done so I'll get back on this soon.
looking so good, especially given the warped shell everyone else would have walked away from. So is the 302 staying, or going in the Willys? Does the Willys have a build thread??
I joined the HAMB a month before you started your build thread and have been following ever since. 16 years, but what a difference.
The engines are staying where they are, I can't believe I entertained the thought of swapping them. Willys build thread: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/38-willys-with-8ba-power.1267760/
Don’t think about how long you have worked on this project, you’re over the hump. Now you get to think about driving it. Each task gets you closer to the dream. It is amazing what you have accomplished and the results are excellent.
Hahaha…I’m right there with you man. Started my build thread in 2013, but actually started working on my truck in 1998. I’m taking @Robdski s advice.
I finally manned up and got the hardest panels made. I'd started a couple times and created abstract art. At the current price of sheetmetal, I wasn't anxious to create any more. As soon as I get these welded, things should come together pretty quickly. Hopefully I can move it under its own power before Ohio turns into frozen hell.
Now that’s some impressive metal work! That has to be one of the toughest areas to make and it looks great! Thanks for the great update.
How much of the original body do you figure is still there? This is impressive work. Been following from the start. What a job!
Man, I knew you replaced a lot but that is a whole lot! It is amazing that you stayed with it. Those who see only the finished '40 will not have a clue of what you did.
