Here’s some old GM ads from a 1953 paper commemorating the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The reference to the “soon to be seen on Canadian highways” Corvette is neat!
The GM ads were in almost every magazine that was popular, like Look Magazine, Life Magazine and travel magazines. Hello, Our dad was into his 3rd time period of trading in his old Buick sedan and getting a new one, every 4 years. He figured out the time of 4 years had just enough miles on it with daily driving to Los Angeles and back to Long Beach to get a good trade in value. The local Long beach Buick dealer, Boulevard Buick loved to see him every 4 years. His love of Buicks outlasted the salesmen selling the last Buick he bought there. On the trade in block with plenty of highway miles. So, like clockwork, he got his new Buick sedan and proudly took us for a short drive, then during school holidays, went on a long family road trip. Most of his cars were labeled Roadmaster. So, he became a master of road trips for our family. He was supported by our mom, who now did not have to cook for a week or so on those longer road trips. Every night a new restaurant was good for her. Even breakfast in a roadside diner was better than cooking every morning at 5 am for our dad. Jnaki In the fall of 1952, when the new models hit the showroom floor, our dad always took us to see the new models. The first stop was Buick and 2nd, Chevrolet. The Cadillac dealer models were a little beyond our means and so we did not go see those models. This was the first two toned sedan our dad chose. It took us far North to San Francisco, across the mid California pass through Yosemite and a two day stay in Mammoth Mountain Lakes region. Finally, down the desert highway 395 all the way back home to Long Beach. Then during the Summer, we went down South to get lost in the Baja, Mexico peninsula coast. It was purchased to go along with his 4 year plan and to fit neatly in our new/old house that we stayed in from 1953 until 1998… Yes, that two toned 4 door Buick lasted until the fall of 1956… wait, that is only 3 years. It is three years, but he bought this 53 Buick in the fall of 1952 when the new models came out to the local dealers. So, 1952 to 1956 when the new 57 models came out worked out to be 4 years and a new two door Roadmaster sedan. YRMV 1957 Buick two door Roadmaster, Westside of Long Beach
