I've got a 26 rpu stocker... and a restored model A chassis... the scope of work is to put the T- RPU on the A chassis... GOW job type build....My idea is to stay kinda period correct. what I wanna do is Z the frame front and back... and probley go with a 36 front axel...I want the frame under the body, but want the body lowered.... I don't mind the tunnel as I have a set of WW2 bomber seats that I can't give away, also have a set of green wire wheels, same ,. can't give the away... the chassis is all restored, with the A banger.. new trans clutch and such... can't give that way either... so my idea, put all the junk on one rolling chassis , paint the body army/air force satin green... put the bright green wires.... Z the frame to get it low... bob the bed... and have a looks goods banger model a powered model T RPU...
Sounds like you've got it all figured out, except the army/air force green. I believe the color you're referring to is Olive Drab. My Dad's first car after he got out of the Army was a surplus Chevy staff car painted that color. My Dad referred to that car as "Old Gangrene".
there's army ranger green and air force forest green.... what ever looks best with my ugly ass wires that are green...
got no idea why those wheels were powder coated that color green, migh look good w/ satin black???? or???
What period are we talking about? Putting a Z in the frame is from the 1990's or later. I don't remember it back in the pre-mid 1960's.
In the late '90s when the retro theme was first starting to take off I remember seeing a lot of green, blue and red wire wheels at the big shows here on the west coast. It seemed like it was always a Track T style roadster or maybe a Model A roadster. I don't know if green wheels are necessarily my color but I've definitely seen worse.
my dad said him and winfield Z'd his 36 ford....and put a carson top on it...he used to tell me about cops in modesto checking your cars windshield and scrub line with a pack of cigs... and that they used to run dual straight pipes, when they got wrote up they had holes drilled in the pipe and would steel wool in the pipe and drop a sixteen penny nail to hold it... get the ticket signed off and pull the nail...
I'm not getting warm and fuzzy about them either, I 've got a bunch of other wheels... don't know what else to do with them... could mount them on the wall for garden /air hoses...
gotta say,... this is the nicest roadster body I've ever seen.... un touched... look at the doors the way they fit... not a spec of rust through...and so far not one dent...
You learn the darnedest things on the internet. I was in the Army just shy of 30 years and never heard of Olive Drab called Army Green. The vehicles were OD green, Desert Tan, or some variant of Camouflaged green black and brown or tans and browns. And the Air Force tactical vehicles were the same colors. Ours just got out to the field more often. What time frame does Army and Air Force Green come from?
Those bright green powder coated wheels can easily be painted any color you choose. The scuffed up powder coat makes a great spray bomb, or sprayed paint base. At least, that was what I read here on the HAMB.
The wheels are fine It's just the color is a little to in your face In my opinion. The plus side is powder coating is an excellent base coat for a different color paint. Just lightly break the surface with some 320 grit sandpaper and then spray away either using a urethane or an aerosol.
I never had any military experience outside of vintage military vehicles but I always liked The Air Force "strata blue" color, ODG That you would see on many Marine corps vehicles also doesn't look too bad when it's new and fresh, The colors I struggle with is "Al-Qaeda" AKA "sandbox" tan or camouflage from any era. Here is a 1952 to 1971 M38A1 like a CJ5 Jeep but more robust) painted up in it's original Air Force blue It's not my Jeep I just stole the picture off the internet.
so my idea is step the frame behind the cab... run the sub floor to the step. and make it level for the bed to sit on,... and yes shorten the box..
seems there's a lot more sheep then herders on this site.... I was hoping for some.... if this pile of parts was mine here's what I'd do post's...T's and A's are pretty much played out...Jimmy has to do his like Johnny or no rain deer games.. don't really wanna do another RPU,,, I think this is #8
