Any neat ideas on what to replace these old Bakelite trim pieces with on the estechueons? I’m going to chrome the bases but wonder if there’s something off the shelf that could look cool

Thanks for the tips, but I bought some of these repop ones a while back and they only work around the window cranks. Desoto used 2 different kinds. The ones with the spikes that stick in the trim panel for the window cranks and the ones around the door handle were spring loaded and press in to a hole in the molding.

 

awesome idea, never would have thought of that!

 

use a piece of wood for a backer-cut small hole first then larger saw and the pilot bit will go right back in the right place in the backer to cut the 'doughnut'

 

Glass is in and it’s off to upholstery. Need to get a new set of front wheels with more backspacing since I have a little rubbin going on!

 

Looking better all the time! You may have mentioned it already…but, what color interior?

Finally found a local desoto dealer frame. This dealership was 6 blocks from the apartment in the neighborhood I lived in during my 20s.

 

Checking in with the upholstery shop in a few weeks. Got some big shiny bits back in the meantime

Upholstery shop making good progress. They did a couple test pleats so we could find a good size. I want them to be rounder and taller than some of the flatter modern pleats I’ve seen. Like stuff you would have seen on cars back in the 50s.

 

Picking the desoto up from interior in a few weeks. Bare metal photo from a move way back when.

 

it's always something. after months of back and forth with the chrome shop and giving them 1.5 grills to work with i am 1 tooth short. pitting and rot is too far gone to have a good base.
