Ok - I admit I am a sick man who started 60 years ago playing with match box cars and here I am today.

I eat, sleep, drink Hot Rods, Custom Cars, Exotics, European and American Muscle Cars / classic trucks that on any given day ignite my senses. I want them all, but can't have them all, so I wet my appetitive when it strikes, like the flavor selection at the local Baskin Robbins ice cream shop.

As some of you fellas have read recently with me, that my obsession has come full circle with starting off with old beater stuff with bumps, scrapes and bruises as a kid aspiring/ graduating to have , build , and ignite this competitive side of me.
Hot Rod show stuff, coupes, exotics, pretty spendy numbers matching Muscle Cars, local and regional shows etc for 30-40 years.

Now all the chrome, shiny paint in the review mirror with just Primer, faded chrome bumpers and some scrapes, bumps and crusties as you've seen with my 40 Ford Coupe, and 62 Burb.

Comfortable in my skin, wrapped in old primer, tin , aged iron , going to my buddies and enjoying a beverage with stories of cars, buddies of years gone by. I convinced myself, it's all good, a few cool old primered edgy rides to enjoy, as mentioned before cool with out even trying.

And yet, I've never been an attic of drugs or alcohol that sadly take over people lives.
But now I get it.....a sickness, compulsive is a moment of spontaneous - something you see that makes you instantly close your eyes and the Vision - the Vision, like the Blues Brothers - John Belushi and seeing the White light, Jake sees the Band - and says to Elwood The BAND - But in the case, The Car and the instant vision you see it, you close your eyes and see how you will make it. The car, THE CAR,

    Ever happen to you ?
Instantaneous - didn't think twice- deal done - that quick and now the move forward.
Now this will make my previous words look like BS of dull paint and chrome and let's be honest, I'm human, I fell off the wagon, and like an old snap shot of a painted car in years past, I guess my old buffer hit me in the head to say wake up and start polishing again..

Remember I started this post ....Visions - a sickness. I am a sick man.

It's too easy when you have the means and equipment to just get up and travel to pick up and bring back.
Enough so, that to medicate my desires, after this , I'll rid of my dually to eliminate how easy to the next fella who needs it.

I've always liked the odd one, path least traveled and had my share of them in the past.
I like to look like I can go fast, I like to sound like I can go fast, I like to know I can go fast but on this one you can only check 1 out of the 3 Boxes. Don't ask me the vision, but have never really been a 'Tribute" guy, but in this case it being all there in the ( Box #1 ) Looks department, I'll make a few changes towards the look. Basic, simple, plain Jane with dog dishes, hood enhancement, looks that make you look twice. Is that a sleeper ? Is that an SD ?
My brand new shop will now be full.
Now if the weather will cooperate to go get it.
    Enough reflections fellas, enjoy.

Well I know that it's a Pontiac but it's not something that we got here in Oz so can you be patient with me and give me some details. The old guy that lived next to us when we moved here 56 years ago had a 62 Pontiac Laurentian which was a Canadian Pontiac, Aussie delivered with a Chev 283 and Powerglide and it was a 4 door sedan. That's the Pontiacs I grew up with LOL

  5. You're a sick man Cob! I think we can all relate in some way. I know that there have been times that I have bought something when emotions took over rational thinking. That's what makes us car guys (and gals). Sure, we don't need all of this stuff, or do we, to in some way maintain whatever level of sanity we claim to have. Great looking little Tempest by the way. I would be tempted by that jewel for sure.

  7. The first car I got to cruising in when I was an adult or close to it was a Pontiac tempest. My buddys uncle gave him a 1961 more door automatic Pontiac tempest, In 1996 I guess it was old ish but it sure felt old to a 17/18-year-olds who no longer had curfews, we had an absolute blast in that car hitting Newport Beach and Huntington Beach and pretty much all of Orange county and it got pretty good mileage on top of that. It wasn't fast but it was a neat car to this day I like them.

As for the sickness I have a confession to make I too suffer from old car disease, I am only 46 I remember My first dose of new matchbox It was my birthday in 1982 I got five of them One was a Model A five window coupe, by the time Christmas came around I started abusing and at 4 years old old and my family was contributing to my problem, I was fully addicted with probably 50 to 100 matchbox and hot wheels within a year for a while I tried to get help for it but The reality was, I was just mixing my car drugs, mixing Hot Wheels, matchbox and even model cars, next thing you know I'm doing 1:10 scale RC cars with the hot shot of two horsepower Flathead Briggs & Stratton mini bikes just to get my day going, the inside my school books I was drawing hot rods, My grades suffered and I was a social outkast but Ihad a support group of other high school aged automobile users and we started scoring cars from backyards all over my local community. High school passed and I ended up getting a job not to go out on dates but to support my habit and my habit was way out out of control by this point, I was not only using cars and trucks but I was substituting my car addiction with vintage boats or vintage go-karts and pretty much everything else that could have an engine or that could be pulled by something that had an engine. I found every time I let my guard down another car followed me home or maybe sometimes a vintage canned ham travel trailer...
What I failed to mention is at some point when I was in junior high school maybe starting in high school I was in a euphoric state I had a vision and I realized I could have multiple cars and if I started buying tools and doing my own work I could buy junkier car so I can have even more... Once I started buying tools it was all over. For the last 30 years in the post high school era I've been chasing that euphoric high I used to get as a kid, I get those little dopamine hits and although they aren't as good as they used to be when I was a kid They still give me what I need. I have given up on trying to quit I just regulate my car habit, sometimes I have five projects sometimes it's ten but never less than three and there isn't a day go that goes by that I don't see a vision for a derelict vehicle and the way I would like to see it done.
My name is Alex and I have an addiction.

I just saw another cherry like this for sale and SD popped into my head. I really think Pontiac should have created the GTO one year earlier, Enjoy!!

What a beautiful car you have there.
    That brings back memories.
We just got our license. 1969.
    A friend bought a 61 tempest.
I remember that 1/2 engine was a dog.
I really think it was slower than any of the other early in lines. Lightweight cars were a good candidate for a powerful engine.

  13. Yea. It’s an addiction
    IMG_3478.jpeg
Mines a messy unorganized chaotic one
However. It’s cheaper than a lot of other sicknesses in the long run and you have a little more to show for it

couldn’t sleep well Friday night cause I was going on a parts run Saturday morning.

I don’t hunt, rarely fish. I get the same “high” chasing parts

an addiction that’s more encouraged than not. Do you offer a drug adict more drugs?
Friends send me info on parts. The wife sends me links to parts and junk. The scrap yard saves things for me. It’s almost like they enjoy my sickness.

If you could find the other half of that engine you'd have a V8!

Love the gold... really a cool looking car.. remember, your car collection will always expand to one more than you have room for... because "there is always room for one more" Isn't @lumpy 63 doing a V8 swap on a similar car???

Hey @swifty No one has mentioned that the novelty of that 4 cyl. banger. It is a slant four, as mentioned, Vee motor with one bank removed. The hope being,
( got beat on my typing time by the last few posts )
The hope being, a longer stroke would make it a performero_O. ( trans axle was Corvair )
I will avoid speaking of the insanity of my past.:eek:
    Suffice to say,, I' ve owned upwards of 50 cars. ( 7 pre-war * '24 to '41 )
@anthony myrick makes a point and the score for being practical.

I've never been happier to know that somebody's sick. Easy for me to think that some of you guys are above it all. Bullshit. You're just like the rest of us. Matter of fact, you might be more like the rest of us than the rest of us.

    Very nice looking car, cob.
    Glad you're feeling better.

I know damn well it's probably a good thing I don't have more income, time and energy and I'm forced to focus on just one. I think it's enough to fulfill me. I think.

You bought the dog dish hubcaps before you ever bought the car?
And then you bought a car to fit the hubcaps?
    That's pretty cool. LOL
So the caps are going on the Pontiac?

Sweet looking Tempest:D I'm building a 62 with a stroker Pontiac at the moment. If you need any mechanical odds and ends let me know before I drop em in the scrap bin. Love the gold BTW.

Awesome Pontiac and love the gold color and looks great sitting next to the beautiful wood boat.
I know the pain as my mind just doesn’t stop thinking about old cars . Looking around each corner trying to find that rusty Gold ever since I was a kid. It’s a fantastic hobby ,obsession or poison to have and enjoying it with friends and family even better..
