I have owned Corvairs for over 50 years now. Currently have 5 of them including the beater 62 Convertible which is my Avatar here. Addressing the issue of different tire pressures front and rear. Front tires in the 16 lb range, with rears at 26 lb. (more or less) This is a 10 lb difference front to rear. Of course, everyone read their owners manual and the tire sticker in the glove box, and strictly followed these recommendations.......right? Of course the rule for service station attendants was "Pump them up to 32 PSI" Attendants did not take the time to look up proper specs when doing service or mounting new tires. When the bias ply tires of the day were over-inflated, this caused the center of the tire to "balloon" leaving a contact patch with the road like that of a bicycle tire. This could cause some interesting handling characteristics. Modern radial tires are a vast improvement over the original bias ply. But the pressure differential should still be followed for ride quality, but radials are much more forgiving. My 62 has bias wide whites, all my others have modern radials. After over 50 years, have never rolled a Corvair, and I have auto-crossed them. I did once roll a Mustang, but that's another story............ Gary Swiatowy
