Dry sand is an interesting thing. Skinny tires sure didn't help. As deep as the ruts are from the front tires, I'm not so sure a 4x4 anything would have helped. Seen lots of pictures of a lot of 4x4s being pulled out from being buried in sand. As deep as that one is buried, it probably needed to be lifted out, and man power was probably the best option.

Not much beach front around here, so the closest I can come is snow. The 50 Dodge 4x4 was awesome in the snow, cut its own path through 12" of heavy wet snow more then a few times. Winter driving and towing my car trailer were the primary reasons it was built. It served me well for 12 years, before a lady made a left turn 20' in front of me while I was driving down the street at 30 mph. The 50 4x4 pickup was my daily driver when I joined the HAMB back in 2001, so I used it as my HAMB name. I switched to my name 4 years after the truck got totaled.

  11. Yup. Probably lacquer. We used to do that all the time. Lacquer was great. I loved lacquer.

  16. Thought I would upload these two pictures to talk about the reference I made a few post up about the backyard paint job. I said it's probably being painted in lacquer. We use to paint lacquer outside all the time. The pictures are of my Dad's 40 Chevy. The car was painted in 1968 with nitrocellulose black lacquer. The first picture is about 1970, at the Oakland Roadster show. The second picture is current. That's still the 1968 lacquer paint job that was applied in a quasont hut. I was riding my bicycle around the quasont hut while my Dad painted the car. Also in the first picture, notice the Meguiares sign by the rear wheel? That picture was taken on setup night at Oakland. My Dad was cleaning the car up, and Barry Meguiare walked up and told my Dad that if he would put the sign out he would give my Dad a bottle of polish. That car was polished with Meguiars #7 from that point on. I still use that polish sometimes.

I too love lacquer paint. Any first-time painter could have success with it. The deep shine is so much better than the multi layered clear coats. Just a 79-year-old man's opinion. I mean no offense.
