I know there are others more intricate designs that are true IRS and I have pictures but couldn't find them, on the top of my head that was the first thread that came to mind. I'll try to dig out those pictures.
I'm using a 1954 Ford Speedometer in this car, thought it would look cool being that it's center steer. Since I'm using the short torque tube, I converted the speedometer to a tachometer. I bought a OER Pontiac hood tach, took it apart and installed it in the speedometer housing. The bubble was in poor shape so I made a new one in my oven. I painted it with so candy to tint the bubble. Finally, I made a new lens for it that is correct for the tach.
Is that a Banjo mounted backward, maybe turned into a quick change and turned IRS with inboard discs? I surely would love to see pictures of the set up.
I haven't done much on this car lately, but I did manage to make some custom valve covers for it today
I'm gonna guess machine some Vette covers flat and separately machine the text in the correct font and fix to covers...art really...Noah is quite the thinker and do...errrr. ...However he did it...
It's center steer, so the divider bar would be in my line of vision. Oh wait, the divider bar will line up with my nose so that I can have an eyeball on each side. Only kidding, great project.
IRS quick change, this is my center section, was in the Stovebolt Special. Ive now had the center section put in between 40 bells with 9 inch parts, so the side covers, diff, and stub axles are available should any want to build a period Halibrand IRS..
There’s this one, a modified 9 inch with inboard Buick brakes, built in the 60’s by two guys in a home garage. The car is pretty well known, ifs as well as tube chassis. Look at ‘Richnapp’ on instagram, his dad and uncle built it
@chrisp ifmyounfind that post on Instagram there are more photos, it really looks like they made everything themselves
Thanks, that's great! The one I'm thinking of used a (probably) V8 center section 35-48, rear gearbox /tail shaft uni's & cutdown wishbones for arms. & I suspect a transverse spring ala Corvette. This is all a vague memory so could be embellished. But they were lovely photo's like @Ryan is known to take of mechanical wizardry in half light
Its hard to see, but if you zoom in on the top left pic about the Stovebolt Special, they used a transverse leaf as per Vette in that, and a QC is just a posh banjo center That does sound like an interesting setup tho...@Ryan
