Hot Rods How about some love for the T-Bucket?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, May 9, 2021.

  1. It looks like a lot of people don't know the difference between a "T" Bucket, "T" Roadster "T" Modified, or a "T" Gow job, but that's ok. Just because it's a "T" that doesn't make it a "T" Bucket. I'm not complaining, just enjoying the pictures. Carry on. The picture is of my old friend Dennis DeBenedictis's "T" Bucket. The car later got a 471 blower, and a top. One of the best in my opinion. Denny sold it I think in the 80's. I never saw it again. He went on to build a full fendered Model "A" Roadster. He had a chopped fenderless 34 3 window in the works, but I Don't know if he ever finished it. Denny past away in 2012. His wife kept the Model "A" and continued to drive it. Denny was a member of the Bay Area Roadsters. https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/eastbaytimes/name/dennis-debenedictis-obituary?id=19462386 hrdp_1009_22_o+1966_to_1967_oakland_roadster_show+30_t_bucket_roadsters.jpg

That is one of the cleanest, nicest ones I keep looking at.
There are a few things I'd like to do a bit different, but I haven't finalized some details on mine in my head either, let alone made them happen.
Tall shifter, ha ha. That will get some going. I dig it.
As for definitions, I try to keep to the typical, but then someone will blend and blur the edges. I'd rather see a cool ride and maybe pick up a tip or idea than gatekeep and say it's crossing the line.
A fenderless shortened roofless '40 PU isn't a T. A '27 turtle deck track style is, but doesn't look like the typical T Bucket either.

Dennis’ T should be the representative picture when one looks up T Bucket in the Hot Rodder's Dictionary. It’s exactly what I think of when I think, T Bucket. Pretty much perfect.
But really, bickering over posts that might not fit one’s own definition is pretty petty and Facebook-y. I just scroll to the next one and don’t hit the Like button.

Dick Scritchfield in the Car Craft Magazine build car, back when he was working at Car Craft mag. When did they build this T?

@40ragtopdown , thanks for that one! Straight windshield, Black with White interior.
Even has a firewall mounted master.
Helps visualize the direction I'm going, even if it's not the final iteration I'm planning.

That one looks like the typical Grant or other aftermarket, with a show cover on it.
I did a minor side quest yesterday on wheels. I've got a T wheel mounted upside down, which brought ire from some folks. I'd like to have a different wheel, but not flat and more of the 60s style.
Saw a '61 Impala steering wheel. Cool, but the usual, expensive and would require doing things to the column/shaft to mate up.

If I'm going thru all that expense and effort, I'd rather go with a wild deep dish like this olds.
    Still out of reach.
Column is Ford, and haven't found a stock one that jumps out at me.

Reminder of what it currently has.
Flat is too low to clear knees, which is why it's mounted dish up. Dish down would be even worse.
I like where the steering wheel is now visually, not sticking out too much.
Also, column has been shortened, but the splice does not allow shaft to be removed from box (thick collar), so modifying would be okay and will be required during box rebuild, but added expense.
Diameter is good, it's okay to use although a tiny bit heavy at rest, fully expected for a non-power box and drag link. It is a small concern for the super deep wheel.
Hoping to eventually have White interior, so a White or 2 tone wheel would fit.

P.S. yes, taller tires, relocating tail lights, new dash and other mods are planned!
