That's pretty slick. I've never had louvers in the plan for my build, but now i'm looking for a reason to do those...

...Many of you may remember the Late Hamber @langy, he was a high bar Hotrodder/Fabricator from across the pond...snooping around I came across this in a Thread on louvers on glass...he did work in glass perhaps due to costs and availability of real steel but he was a force...another fave of his was stainless steel...
Hope you get some go fast in up there Hamber...

    RIP Langy

  16. Tricky car right here. Rear fenders are widened, and skirted, front fenders are skirted, suicide doors with hinges and handles, door tops rolled into dash like a 36 Ford, 36 Ford dash, rear rolled pan with exhaust cutouts, frenched taillights and license plate, I'm sure there's more. Great car.

Just finished making my hand punch and getting it dialed in today, by the last 4 louvers I was rollin! 20250219_093420.jpg 20250219_103343.jpg 20250219_114028.jpg 20250219_121137.jpg 20250219_164245.jpg 20250219_175822.jpg 20250220_101106.jpg

Ended up adding a guide after seeing how hard it was to locate and be consistent. Also used strips of rubber to prevent tearing.

So to understand how your punch louvers: you measure, mark where, cut a slit in metal, insert base with guide through slit, then punch down on other side. Correct?? They look good.

Exactly. It is a little more work but its also kind of nice to be able to do my layout on top of the hood first to see where they should go. Plus its how they did it back in the day, at least some of em

@oliver westlund, hammer pounded or top die is in a hand or hydraulic press?

There are a few tech articles in the archives on these more primitive but effective Louver Dies. They sure do work but hand hammered must rattle the ears, so muffs or plugs are well warranted.

    Nice work Hamber...

Top die is in my hand and Im hitting it with a 3 lb mini sledge, only about 3 whacks to seat it and because I put rubber in the bottom of the female side, its not terrible on the ears. Once I added the guide it got a lot faster and easier. Thanks for the kind words!

Not positive but I believe we figured this one to be REO, it has been cut down a bit to fit my roadster but then my engine ended up being MASSIVE so it really doesnt fit. May end up reusing the sides on my model a roadster when I get there, they are really neat looking!
