That’s what I thought, the car @corncobcoupe bought has one those, never had one but they intrigue me, I’m thinking you use some of the performance stuff from a 389 to make a good running banger. Might be fun in T bucket.

20250220_180617.jpg 20250220_180614.jpg I am kinda doing a copy of what Mickey Thompson did with a brand new 62 tempest. Yanking the slant 4 and installing big honking Pontiac V8

All the years of being a mechanic I never had a Pontiac 4 cylinder in the shop. More than enough of the OHC 6s though.

Years ago I bought a super cherry one owner 66 Tempest with an OHC 6 that was toast..I swapped in a 283 with a t350 and my daughters Mom drove it for a few years.

They were tight in the front when service was needed on that end. They always seeped oil, a flat rate mechanics nightmare.

I learned auto mechanics from an old gentleman named Harry Dort. He opened his first shop in San Diego In 1918. I started hanging out there in about 1973 when I was 10...He hated Pontiacs... He called them GMs experimental devision.

There isn't much to be found on the internet about this car, though this is interesting as I have never heard of this race held at Daytona in 1961.

"The arrival of the new compacts by the Big Three in 1960 was the beginning of a major new era. The race for sales also turned into a literal race, when NASCAR created a new Compact Sedan Class and invited the Little Three to Daytona for the 1960 races. All three accepted, and quickly developed “speed kits” or such, to be sold by dealers in order to homologate the cars."

:D It will annihilate street tires... I will probably buy some 8 inch slicks for the track. My 64 Chevy II twisted the driveshaft in half with 7 inch slicks:p

  20. Lumpy, I love the steel wheels!! With you hubcaps, it will look perfect!

  21. Little Truckdoctor finished his first carburetor rebuild. It’s a Holley 4011 650 Spread Bore that I paid $50 for at Bowling Green last year. He bought the air cleaner at BG for $20. I gave him an old Holley Street Dominator intake I had. Now he just needs a proper Small Block Chevrolet to put it on. I’ve got the one piece rear main 350 that we used to mock up Papaw, but it’s got every core plug knocked out and I’m afraid it’s cracked. Hopefully not, it’s a roller cam block. His cousin also has a 327 block and crank too. IMG_8986.jpeg

Over the past month completed the interior in the 58 Dodge. Pretty happy with how it turned out. Went from this IMG_3650.jpeg

The previous owner made the headliner from a product that I am not familiar with…almost like a thin drywall that has thick cardboard on both sides…about 3/16” thick or so. He cut it and shaped it then epoxied the back on the top corners. He did a nice job. It is covered with a fabric that is like a very thin carpet. I just used Duplicolor vinyl/fabric paint and was amazed how it turned out.
    Cheers!

Making a little progress on the 32 pile of parts. Doors latched and ready to final fit and start gluing it all together.

No Thank you, love to see kids into cars! I remember helping grandpa, dad, uncles and cousins with cars, it was a magical time.
