  2. I finally found the cure to all my old car/hot rod hoarding! I went directly to the very top of my [bucket?] list and built a 34 ford coupe exactly the way I wanted it. Took a number of years because my money comes in slow in my old age but I did it.
Then I tested my theory and bought a number 2 or maybe 3 car on my list........a 1950 Pontiac coupe in great shape. I got as far as getting the old straight-eight running and then the car sat in the garage, abandoned. I still spent all my time on the 34 so I sold off the Pontiac. Somedays I regret selling it but I don't really have the time, room or money for another project. 34 5_20.jpg 50Pontaftersale.jpg

I’m glad you finally got your 34 finished Rock after what 10 years ?
Everything on your 34 is just right on the looks, stance, rake, - Bitchin !

My biggest challenge is I like so many different ones that after I get one on my like list, I see another and I make a change.

    Right now I have 4 “ older “ cars.
40 Ford Coupe, 62 GMC Suburban, 63 Pontiac Lemans, 71 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler.

I just like a lot of cars, trucks all makes etc.
Different odd ones in many cases.

I can’t have all of them all at once, so I have 3-4 at a time.

As well as My 95 F350 Dually, 97 30th Anniversary Z28 and 2009 HHR SS.

    A enjoyable sickness :)

  5. I remember driving over to your house and driving your old Dodge coupe around the block...what fun!
That must have been about 40 cars ago. corncobs28dodge.jpg

    Fun that day,

THE original Corn Cob Coupe that started it all for me on the HAMB.
28 Dodge 3 Window Coupe body, frame was found buried in a Corn Crib

Then if I remember right a year or two later on we made the all time trade…
    Your Porsche for my Rambler.
Man we were nuts cool trading on that one, what fun.
I met you half way off I-80 at the Atlantic exit ?.
I think if I remember right on the Rambler, the carb started leaking for you on the way home ?
Did I remember that right ?
I got stopped by the Police on my way home only a block from my house for a loud muffler.
Fortunately got a warning and as soon as I got home had a box of steel wool pads in my garage
and shoved a bunch in the end of the straight muffler.
    Hey - it worked !

Pontiac’s ahead of its time …. IRS
    Independent Rear Suspension.
    Gotta love it ;
Left Hand Thread on left rear and right front.
Right Hand Thread on right rear and left front.
Wonder how many studs / nuts were broken or stripped over the years figuring it out.

Did that come that way from the factory? Weren’t they usually left hand threads on drivers side and right hand threads on the passenger side? Usually the left handed threaded studs have an L stamped on the end. When I was a kid I remember a few people twisting studs off, I was lucky Dad told me about the left handed threads.

I remember them being side specific as well. Had to do with the direction of the rotational force from the wheels on the lug nuts when stopping wanting to loosen lug nuts on the left side if they rotated right to tighten. That is, if I recall correctly.

@corncobcoupe I’ll bet someone swapped the front hubs side to side , probably when servicing or changing bearings.
@snoc653 the theory was as you said, most of the left handed studs have been replaced with right handed studs over the years.

My memory served me that that left hand threads were on the drivers side and right hand threads being in the passenger side.

So, yes it was a little surprise LR and RF had left hand threads and RR and LF had right hand threads.

That being said, I also know at the assembly plants, if they ran out on one side supplies but had enough on the other side, they used what they had.

Classic example, I had an all original 67 muscle car ( California assembly plant ) that had engine / and body / suspension bolts with head markings different on each side down the length of the car.

So, it is very possible the same happened to this Leman’s ( Michigan assembly plant) for studs / thread directions.
If it is LH a “L” should be on the end of the stud.

I was a little surprised on this one and I can’t say I see where it might have been torn apart.
There could have been a hub / ball joints replace resulting in the hubs getting put back on the wrong side. Who knows.
There is 67 K on the odometer and looking under it / over it leads me to believe it might be original.
I’d be very surprised if it has turned over but if it has, the previous owners took very well care of the car.

It has had one repaint and good 10 footer.
They could have prepped the body more (sanding smooth etc, a few filler spots lower front fenders ) prior to the repaint but it’s not a show car. While the original Canyon Gold is not this current Color Gold on the car now,
I really like this Gold, It’s like a 14K nugget gold.

Your car is clean and appears to have been well taken care of. Who knows about the wheel studs, I’m glad they dont do that anymore.

The 63 Service-Manual-Tempest-Chassis says the left hand threads were in fact on the left side of the car. Page 3A-1. I think you are correct and someone repacked the wheel bearings on both sides at the same time and simply put the hubs on the opposite sides. Not a big deal, just one of those little OCD things that was bugging me. The service manual is downloadable and was pretty easy to find. It won't let me copy and paste text from it, but it did answer the question.

You would think putting the left threaded studs on the right or passenger side would be the way to go if you wanted the wheel rotation to tighten the nuts. Hell I’m thinking to much, not real sure why the OEMs did it.
