    Hello,

When my brother drove up to our driveway in his new 1958 Impala, it was an amazing sight. He was smiling from ear to ear.
upload_2025-3-11_7-54-54.png He had just sold a running Model A Coupe and a 51 Oldsmobile cruiser sedan to help him buy this cool hot rod sedan. So, yes a big smile was appropriate. The Impala sounded powerful and rumbled to a stop in our front driveway spot. Now, he and I were both smiling. Even our mom came outside of the house to see the shiny black 58 Impala.

Despite the full hubcaps that lasted several minutes before being snapped off for a better look. It was a look that I would get accustomed to for the next several months of racing at Lion’s Dragstrip, near our Westside of Long Beach house.

So, a week later, we got dressed up to go to a friend’s wedding.

But, the main emphasis was our participation at Lion’s Dragstrip from the fall of 1957 to late fall 1959 when we saw the writing on the wall as far as our competition in the A/Stock class.

Now, we were on a new trail of a willys coupe for the gas coupe/sedan class.

I was not driving as yet, so, I was the go to guy for filming my brother weekly while he raced. When I got to be 15, he allowed me to race in several elimination races that I barely won. Now, I had two trophies to put on our bookcase shelf.

Finally, when the Impala was mine during high school, it was a fun car to cruise and race on the local drags or just hanging around the hot spots in So Cal.

Then when I was able to save up some money, my last custom item for the Impala was this look. new machining and adaption of buick skylark wire wheels for the ultimate hot rod cruiser.
