In 1955 I got a toy Areial Fire Truck for Christmas that I still have. After my kids and grandkids were old enough to stop playing with it, I decided to restore it. What puzzled me was that the truck had Tonka wheels, but the decals read MFD. Julian Thomas from Thomas Toys hooked me up with a couple parts and new decals I needed for the restoration. He also told me how my truck was actually a Mound Metalcraft toy manufactured around the time they were transitioning to Tonka Toys which explained the MFD decals. In November 1955, Mound Metalcraft changed its name to "Tonka Toys Incorporated".[9] From 1947 to 1957, their logo was an oval, showing the Tonka Toys name in red above blue ocean waves with seagulls overhead, honoring nearby Lake Minnetonka.
