  7. Well, I didn't go and it's only a very short drive across town for me. Not seeing any of it here hasn't affected me yet. Hay BB that dump truck comment has me wondering though.

    Uh oh...Another trophy?

I saw the coverage that a few posted and the pics a fried took and I decided to skip it. Besides, I was going to go on Saturday and all Noak's Ark up in her. I'm not saying it rained for 40 days and nights but I did release a dove when it cleared up. Well, not a dove so much as one of the feral cats that live on my porch.

What's really weird about it is there is nearly nothing about the PRS to be found on the internet, no I don't do F'book either.

  11. I think it's the Time thing and the shifting tide. I only have my personal likes to compare to and it clearly reflects in my personal inventory of things that burn Fossell Fuel. I'm also 77 years young so it stands to reason I'm in the minority of the volume builders. Putting on a big Show is a business, if it doesn't draw a crowd, it doesn't make enough$$$ to stay alive. Personally, I think the name should be changed from "Portland Roadster Show" to something more fitting to the younger set of Tuners, Drifters, Low Riders and Off Roaders. That's what's there so why not? They would come in flocks and the event profits would go through the Roof. Our Days have passed as builders and guys that attend anything in volume. Have you looked at the Old Guys that can still attend that started this. We are using E Scooters, Walkers of all kinds or a Cane just to get through the doors. We can't walk the 5 acres of Shinny Shit to search out the 6 or 8 vehicles that fits our taste.
Case and point. My last customer project that went into Show Competiton was in 2015. Yes, it was a nice car. In the same class was a good friends fresh 55 Chevy Gasser and they were sitting in very close proximity to each other. This 55 had just had a Hot Rod magazine Cover shot and a full 4-page article in it on the car. It was a Show/Race car. We were just a Comp Car. The extreme contrast was so clear to me I didn't attend the awards night. I didn't want to see the disappointment in my Customers face as the awards were passed out. Shocking to me that Comp Car took first place in every category it qualified for including best paint except Best Motor. That was my call to leave the hood closed because it looked best from 20 feet away with it down. The 55 Gasser sat with its tilt front end open showing the Injected small block drenched in Chrome and received Best Motor as it should have. We had the wheelie bars Chromed, past that if the part didn't come out of the box Chrome there was none. That showed me just how much the Show World had changed in the past 20 years. My customer was happy, and I thought the Judges should have been run out of town.
I had never had much use for Show Cars but attended most as a social event. To me trophies just meant something to keep cleaning the cobwebs off of and too much $$$ spent getting them.
    Yah, car shows are overrated.

Did Duane run the show again this year? He has done a good job but I know he is tiring of it. When I talked to him at last years show he said he wanted to have one last huge show, something to remember him by as a show promoter. I don't think this was it. Maybe next year.

  13. He retired and then came back this year late anbd they scrambled to get stuff in order this year and talked at the show to run it next year for the 70th.

  15. what has hurt the online stuff is the west coast shows breaking off from the ISCA a couple years ago. The death of magazines has also hurt coverage of the show. Outside of Pomona and Sacramento you’re not going to see nationwide coverage like you used to for the west coast swing.

there are already a good handful of videos on YouTube with coverage of the show.

I get that, but based on the absence of internet postings in general it seemed like it didn't happen, like you posted earlier, it takes a minure to put a photo package together.

True there and they give out a lot of awards.

I had to revise this image a bit because my old fart memory was wrong the first time.

The Roadster show takes up three or four rooms of buildings D & E of the expo center with the main part being in E-2 and E-1 and the high school cars and usually the Slo-Pokes cars and the awards stage being in D-2 . E-1 and E-2 each being almost the size of a football field inside.
I wish I could have made it down but it wasn't in the cards this year. Screenshot (468).png

  19. Pretty sad mark of changes when the Slo Pok's don't participate as a club. I don't even see it on our quarterly calendar of events. If there were any members cars there it probably was a one of and not under our Green Flag. Heck it might have been that Prowler as far as I know. I will say the old days of 50 to 60 cars in a group on display will probably never happen again and there are well over 100 members today. That in itself is just plain Sad and Sobering. The times they are a changing my friends.

That would be the day! A SloPok sticker on a prowler. Bought, not built.

I don’t think you need to worry about the weirdness level in stumptown.

Just my opinion so it doesn't mean shit, but just the wonderful historic customs that @Taboo56Chevy posted would have been worth the price of admission by themselves

If Duane had to take the reins later in the game this year it isn’t on him. He works damn hard to put that show together. He and his wife. Good folks. Since next year is number 70, I’ll commit to it. Hell, I’ll bring everything that is running at the time. My olds and dune buggy have never seen the inside of a show. I’ll change that. How about a HAMB section at the show? I can paint us up a banner. It would take up space like beaches used to do. Be fun!

    Whatcha think?

  25. I am already working on a 20x40 display for the twin 68s. Doing a full themed display like the old days to celebrate the 70th

It looks like I’m responding to everyone separate today, LOL.

I love seeing that vette. Even tho I’ve seen it previous years, I always find something I missed before.

I go to art museums to see things I haven’t seen yet, but that doesn’t mean I don’t spend time with my old favorites.

Speaking of vettes, this is my view this morning whilst getting my oil changed at the dealership (free lifetime oil changes).

What’s he get for 20x40? I can put 4 cars in that space

  28. The show used all the halls this year. All if E was mainly 20x20 high cars or the special display areas. D hall was clubs and more typical 10x20 spots. Some 20x20 cars. C hall was pinstripes and 4x4 stuff, A and B halls were all the high school kids cars.

  29. You can but it’s a little tight and since your usually either a 10x20 or 20x20 figured I would just do 2 20x20 spots, one for each car and then I will be building some props and items for full theming and lighting. Figured it would be cool to have my matching cars together in the show once.
