this one has all the fatman, F150, disc brake goodies on it and bags. it went together really well, i made some motor mounts to have the chevy engine sit a little farther to the rear to use the original trans crossmember. if you run the F150 box you have to run some sanderson block huggers headers or there is some stock manifolds that work to but i dont recall what they were. everything looks right at home in the merc frame.

  4. unionvillehaunt there are all ways to do it on a merc It's what a person likes to invest time and moneyIf you have a badly rotted merc floor braces an all The frame floor pan swap is a cheap way out for some guys. You know how much time you got in yours .THe only thing your doing in the front is to re hang nose and the bumper the fire wall is from donor car I'am not saying totally weld up in a few weekends enough to run it up the block. one merc not mine but we both worked on it till it was done It was a cheap way out for him.Time and money wise.I've done a lot of cars all different ways.I wouldn't take a good merc and do it this way. From one jersey boy to another. ( There salt on them there roads It only eats 6to 8 inches of your car.)

I have 3 solid weekends into my firewall splice alone. It's not as easy as everyone thinks. You'll have things crop up that you hadn't thought of until you actually do it.

Lefturn makes it look easy because he's done so many of them, and CAN do these in a couple weekends.

Something nobody talks about...how exactly do you plan to lift the body in the air, and be able to raise and lower it over and over again while you make cuts, adjutments, etc. over the ch***is? You have to make something, if you don't have a lift. All this takes time and money. It sounds nice and easy to say, "cut the body off this, and put the floor and ch***is under it"...well...yeah, I thought it would be easy too. I'm 2 years into this, working here and there. I've had the car for 7, and the doner for 4 years. Real time actually working on it would probably be close to 6 months, not counting all the time NOT spent in the garage chasing things down.

Hell, it took a good couple weeks of nights after work to just cut apart the doner car (carefully, now..) and then figure out how to get rid of an entire Lincoln body! You cant put 4 lincoln doors and a hood out in one night at the curb here for trash pickup.

  6. I have an I beam in garage.yes most of my cars have taken alot of time too I know what your saying. But when you have a buch of guys working together you get it done faster. yeah the trash man looks at you funny.

It was actually your car that made me realize how much work it was! Wow, thats alot, especially in a suburban garage!

I too face some challenges with that, I am always throwin out doors and roofs of stuff. The garbage men always give me the fisheye when I leave in the morning and see them. Few weeks ago I left out a couple stacks of my dads old Hustler and *******s from the 70s and 80s, so I guess it all evens out. Must have heard that diesel idling outside our house for 15 minutes that morning.

    Suburbia ****s...and I don't have an I beam in the garage, or a high enough ceiling for a lift...next house...next house... :)

Maybe I'll try the **** route next time...lol...**** taped to all my "hazardous waste" (that's what they consider car parts here.)

  14. slddmatt very nicely done sir . I like the stock front end too.I have the stock front end in my shoe box just have 3 inch lowering springs in it sets low and rides nice .What disk brake set up is that you are using? In you last post what did you use in that front end spring or bags? Is the other merc yours too? I'am cheap to I like to squeeze the **** out of the eagle on a quarter hahaha.

  15. On a certain badly rotted 49' Fleetline, it took me a month of weekends to to a frame swap to the S10 frame, complete with a 6" channel, 3" chopped out of the middle of the frame for wheel base, and completely fabricated floor. Still have to make better front clip mounts.

I would only do a frame swap if you could find one with a track width that is the same as the stock merc. Otherwise they look off. Same for the chev's. Most of them look off also because the track is too wide on the donor frame they used.

  16. Every person works at there own pace some are faster than others .Plus life gets in the way. Not all your time is spent in the garage. When I'am in the garage music playing in the zone nothing else exists till I'am done with what I set out to finish for that day.I try to make a plan each time I'am out in the garage so my time is well spent.Racer Rick do you have any pictures

An X-frame under a Merc??? Never heard tell of that before, but it'd be interesting with a 409 or 348 Chevy in it!! Post some pics if you can!!

Forgive the possible naieve question, but why would you do that? You are essentially taking out a super strong frame for a frame that had issues from the factory with handling power. That, and you are still left with (maybe power steering) but most likely manual with drums up front. Just seems like a ton of work for motormounts and ball joints.

  24. FH, I know where there's a real sweet 49/51 Merc body (it was under a tarp so I didn't get a real good peek) but it's solid as hell, and complete. Best part is, it's just the body, no frame.;)

    So there.

  25. I have some pic's from the middle of the build. You can need the channel and the new frame, as well as the new crossmembers and bracing for the new floor.

a 348 is a perfect engine for one of those mercurys! Great thread guys!

  30. Took em off so I could life the body off! The drivers door is bent like a banana. Its sitting lower than that now, as it got all the weight put back into it. Things like floors, doors, trunk lids, seats, etc add up!
