I just bought a '48 Ford F100 and was just wondering if anyone would have some cool pics. I would like to chop the top and lower the whole truck.

    Thanks

I think Ralphie's Ford pickup is one of the nicest I've seen, look for a full feature on both these beauties in Classic truck magazine...soon.[IMG]

Will a '51-'52 front clip swap over to the '48 without any problems?
I like the grille better, especially with some '50 buick teeth.

Yea they will. Take a look at my truck. I have a 51-52 box and cab, with a 48-50 front end. Pick and choose what you like the best.

Shoebox72, I like your truckalot, I'm going to lower mine just a bit and planning on a Roller HO 302 with a Carbed Blower setup and have it look like a mild custom.

Novatattoo, what have you done to get yours that low?
Also, what's the average amount everybody takes out of the top when they chop them?
    Thanks for the pics guys.

Mine has an RBs Mustang II crossmember w/ 2'' drop spindles and 205/70/14s up front. Rear has a reverse eye main leaf w/ every other leaf removed leaving only 5 total springs. Also all four spring hangers were flipped. 275/60/15s out back. Hope that helps.

Only thing wrong with chopping these trucks is most cut them too much. A mild chop looks great on 'em. But guys act like somebody is not going to instantly notice their project is chopped, so they cut it till it looks silly. Doesn't seem to be much interest in subtle changes that refine the look, seems the changes have to be radical and far too often ugly. The Hot Wheels generation. Rant over.

I am kinda stuck with how much I can chop my cab because I need a 12" tall front window for PA to give me an inspection sticker. I have been messing around with it a lot, and this is what I came up with. I can raise the window up toward the roof about 2 inches, take 4 inches out of the front, and only 3 out of the back and get this height and rake.

By the way that is New Jersey bureau of solid waste management on the door for anyone curious. Garbage truck baby!

  26. I had a 51 flat bed, 6 cylinder 4 speed in high school. Probably the reason I've never really looked at these trucks for the last 50 years. but all of the sudden things are looking different. A neighbor just gave me his 52 sitting on an international 4x4 chassis he threw in a 52 ford 3/4 ton rolling chassis. today the owner of a rod shop down the street, just bought a very nice 52 ford pu with a rebuilt flathead and 3 speed column shift. dropped axle de-arched springs. nova rear. awesum little truck for 9 grand. it's super I'll take some photo's tomorrow. I was drooling when started talking about the changes he's planning next week.
Mustang ll, 351 windsor, c-4, all the shit. make a long story shorter I am $500 poorer but I own a fresh flatmotor, rebuilt 3 speed, dropped axle and steering column and gear, new shocks. I tried to tell him he should have a 9 inch with all that power, he didn't fall for but the seed is planted

Hoof...I wouldn't worry much about the windshield hieght. Not many cops or insp. stations know about it. Plus if you get street rod tags the hieght is 7". Remember that is verticle hieght...not on an angle. Also remember that the tallest part of the windshield can be your minimum hieght.

I think Jeff's truck is chopped 3 in the rear and 4 in the front. The fenders have been moved up 2" and the hood pancaked. There's a bunch of other mods but they are the main ones.

That thing is sweet! What is under it for suspension? If stock type, how did you get it lower?
