Not sure about Spiders as they’re more a custom look, where as this is more a Street Sleeper, but I appreciate the input. I’ll have to look at the bumper spear - Thanks for pointing it out.
It’s unusual that I say this but with the cool body style and color wheels aren’t a huge factor as the car is bitchen. I would say the poverty caps give it a finished look
Close one eye ….. Then the other…. Double vision ? Ahhhh no matter which way you look at it, there’s only one valve cover.
I like both but feel the bare steelies would look more deliberate and give more of a competition look if the rims were painted black. How about a second set of tires (slicks for the back) with chrome reverse on one side and Cragar S/S on the other? It's a kick ass car and like a beautiful woman, will look good in any shoes!
C'mon man! Cut the shit! It's time to drop in a 389.... I know a guy named @lumpy 63 that can hook you up!
I always was fascinated by that 4 cylinder, Pontiac took a 389 and just cut it in half. Took a stock 389 intake and just a quick mod in casting and had an intake for it. They didn't try anything to change its appearance to make you feel it was a totally new motor or something innovative. Wonder what they would do with a overbore, H-rods, ram air 4 head and a hot cam ?.... I'd think the intake would be fine. ...
It’s such a nice car. It’s very understated. Another option.... Caps on the front....bare wheels on the back.
Which I may do, if I can’t find a 15x5/4.5 BC wheel with nubs that will hold the 9-7/8 Cap. The passenger rear steel wheel is a little bent with a little vibration, so have a spare wheel to use. That leaves me one steel wheel to find that holds the 9-7/8 Cap Caps in front with steel wheels, cheater slicks in back is a Visions option.
Instead of trying the make a couple old edgy rimmed 15"x 5" ones work, bought some new 15"x 6" for the rears that I believe the 9-7/8" OD Dog Dish Caps will fit. I measured my existing old ones that work and sure enough they are 9-1/4" to knubs so the 9-7/8 OD caps should pop on. I Damn, the Cheater Slicks are expensive. Have to think about that for a while. Unless you fellas have some decent 15"/8" wide ones you'd like to sell.
Man...I came real close to buying a set of cheater slicks that would have worked at a swap meet last weekend that were pretty reasonable even though I had no use for them... I wish I would have grabbed them.
Thanks - I'm leaning that way. A little challenging for 1/2-20 LH Lug Nuts. They’re out there - just not locally. I prefer US Made Lug Nuts - even more challenging. Had some previous issues with imports being soft.. I did get some new 15x6 wheels for the rear. 1” wider than the OEM 15x5 wheels. 15x6 rears /15x5 fronts. Off set on the rear wheels inside inner rim lip to the shock absorber bottom bolt is really close - like 1/4”. It turns with out rubbing but I won’t know until I get the tires remounted on the 15x6 wheel if it rubs of not. Fingers crossed it will be fine. Saturday working at the shop pic.
In my opinion you knocked it out of the park, it looks "just right" with the poverty caps (or without), a high school friend got an new Olds when he graduated from high school which was similar to the Pontiac, nice little car. Now you have me wanting to find one of those scoops to put on the 62 Unibody I've got now
Thanks for the approval feedback. @vtx1800 There's one in the classifieds from late last year. Contact him if he still has it. @pigIRON63 https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/posts/15365320/
Nice Saturday….. 15x6 wheels now on the back and 15x5 on the front. Always liked the plain Jane sleeper look. Decided for now body colored steel wheels with OEM Plated Lug Nuts for now ( explanation a couple posts down ).
^^^^ looks like the pare for an inside straight I personally don’t like my nuts hanging out in the wind never know when you may lose one or two Them there doggy dish caps would let you know
I hear ya. Dog Dish Caps are 9-7/8 and I had 2 bent OEM rims. I bought some new Rims that were supposed to fit the 9-7/8 Caps but the rim nubs aren’t tight enough. So, in the meantime run the nuts and keep my eye out for straight original OEM ERA rims.
Not sure yet Mike. Thanks for asking. Some family health ( not mine) have to monitor. Have to see when things get closer.
I hated "poverty caps" back in the day. I understand that they are 'vintage' pieces...... but still?? I couldn't afford those fancy alloy or chrome wheels like the rich kids, but I did manage a set of baby moons the first month and saved up for chrome trim rings the following month.
I had a couple of them I found in an old Ford truck mechanic’s basement, I took them to my next swap meet labeled them as Pontiac Super Duty with a $50.00 price on them a guy reached right in his wallet handed me a $50.00 and said “I can’t believe you are selling these that cheap!”
Your tail pipe appears a bit anemic in comparison to the rest of the muscular poncho and brings to mind George Costanza's shrinkage incident. A single side, dual tip under the bumper would look the part. Maybe even a T/A tip rolling out of that quarter panel?
