  4. I have already chosen that car.... the one I have now.

It's been four years now and I'm having so much enjoyment from it. Everywhere I go people comment... Boy 'o' Boy !!! I don't think I have ever seen a car like that before other than in photos. I guess especially here in Australia a chopped '39 Mercury Coupe with Flathead doesn't drive by all that often.

Here and there we drive it as often as we can.

This car is very much a sentimental piece of history to me, my hope is to recover it and get back on covers and centerfolds. I want to see a miracle happen.

  7. I was expecting a thread on hot rod hearses, or some tangent on your current one being your last ride- if you don’t quit driving the “ hot rod Lincoln “. So back on track. Likely with a work in progress look to it.

I have had a bunch of cool cars and trucks and other assorted money pits, that have given me a lot of pleasure over the decades. But since we are dreaming and lusting over various piles of vintage metal, that haunts our dreams, I offer up these two unique rides.

The "VICTRESS", was a picture I saw on the H.A.M.B., I have never seen one in person, but this picture that I posted here, says it all, open top roadster, and even sitting still, it looks like its going a million miles an hour!

After seeing the movie, "The Godfather" years ago, the black 48 Alpha that was blown up, really caught my eye. I love all of the classic lines that this car embodies. Pretty cool for 1948.
    Thanks from Dennis.

There are a lot of cars I could be happy with being the "last one". But one car that has stuck with me is this 35 roadster. Perfect lines, not pretentious, not too shiny, not to much patina. Comfortable, like a good old leather jacket. My idea of heaven:

Always liked the 35….They were admired by few and many received 36 front clips…good choice!

If I can find a 57-60 f100 ,m100 that’s in half decent shape I’d be down for one. Not exactly that tall of an order is it?

Yeah these F-100s can be really cool... I had a good start on a '59 at one point, but life happened & I decided to move to the west coast. This was one of the ones I had to leave behind... Hope the new owner did it proud.

I'm lucky in that I have achieved what I set out to do in automobiledom, and I'm 45 years old. I still have my first dream car that I bought when I was 12 years old (an off topic Mach 1 that is exactly the way I want it to be through 33 years of building and refining it), and my end all be all "other car" was always a '49-'51 Merc kustom, which I bought last year and have been making it into exactly what I want it to be. I got the Mercury from the son and daughter of the late owner, who had it since 1953, so it is a legit old school build, but been kept up and updated through the years, and I'll have it and the Mustang until the day I die....but, I guess if I had to add one last car to the mix, I'd have a mild kustom '61 Olds. The overall styling and especially the back end on them is just perfect, and I do love me a Rocket engine.

For me it's always been two cars; either an old Austin or Anglia gasser, or a '39 Chev coupe. I've been fortunate enough to buy both in recent years. I've loved gassers since before I could drive, or even think about owning a car.
I found my Austin in 100% stock body back in 2010 just months before I retired, and began working on it right away. Once I retired I racheted up the work hours, and finished it quickly.

In 2019 at the Portland Swap meet I bought a rusted out hulk of a '39 Chev coupe. It had been someone's hotrod or drag car previously as I discovered mounts for a Chev V8 and it had a 9" Ford rear axle. It also had a one piece fiberglass tilt clip, but it was so warped and ruined it couldn't be saved. Because of all the rust it took me a couple years to finish, and 1/4 of that was just replacing bad sheet metal.

So at this point I have those last cars I hoped to maybe own someday.

When I was a youngin' building AMT models, I gravitated towards a couple cars that I never thought I'd be able to have... but now that I'm an old'n I have 'em both. Sometimes it's hard to believe.

20250112_122255.jpg At 75 years old I bought my final car last summer. After 12 years of driving a '32 Ford with a 5 speed it was time to get my teenage dream car: a '40 Ford Coupe. I've had 4 hot rods in my life and they have all been black. This one is an older restoration so I don't have to worry as much about road rash. It has a modern drive train with an automatic, PS and PB, heat and air and is quite comfortable on the highway. The only thing lacking is a brown leather interior and that is only a few months away.

  24. I guess my first choice would be the car that started me on this path, although its long gone.
My uncles green '54 Mercury Sun Valley with a "warmed over" 312 and actual pipe cut outs. Rode in it when I was 11 or so with the pipe caps out. Never been right since. Gene.

I'm still holding out on hope to get a 33 or 34 ford coupe have pasted on two of them because they were very rough and to much cash for there condition. Should of pulled the trigger because there not getting any cheaper maybe if I sell a kidney some day I could own one.

I haven't read the whole thread but I've known for a long time I'd like it to be a Lincoln Mk IV hearse or a 46-48 Buick hearse like the one Neil Young used to drive to gigs with the band's equipment in the back! I believe "Long May You Run".

This is the last one I’m building. According to current statistics I have 18 years to complete, I’m on track. IMG_2374.jpeg
