Detroit Historical Museum too. Great museum. And the "basement" has a great train layout and the Detroit 1890s city-you've got to see it. www.detroithistorical.org

  4. Besides what 31Apickup mentioned, on Grosse Ile is the Pagoda home of Henry Ford's enforcer Harry Bennett which was used for bootlegging. Trenton has the Chrysler Engine Plant where the early hemi's were built. Flat Rock has the current Mustang Plant and the old Ford headlight plant from the 30's.

Good to see Detroit finally getting some respect again, after years of people trashing it.

  15. Looks like time well spent. Who do you have to talk to about sitting in these cars?

Well you have to be a vip with a press pass like me.... just kidding! Haha the gilmore encourages all guests to sit in that particular cord and have their picture taken. Its REALLY neat! I was there as their guest and Im sure I could have gotten permission to sit in other cars but unless theres a reason, I try as hard as I can to not be a burdon or ask for too many favors. Its a big job to run these museums and preserve this history and I am filming to try to help their cause not create more work.
It is almost 100% a look, dont touch place although there are several interactive exhibits!
    Indeed!

  19. Thanks for all of the pictures. Good reminder to get out, and tour.

    Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum
is an arcade and museum. It features a large collection of vintage arcade games and other coin-operated entertainment machines, most of which are functional and can be operated by visitors.

    And I'll second Vinsetta Garage.

  21. I didn't mention Marvin's to him as they lost their lease and temporary closed as they are moving to a new location. New location will not be open until sometime these summer. Once it reopens it definitely should be on must see lists when in Detroit area.

If you like art, the Detroit Museum of Art is world class and underrated. There was much money in Detroit during the auto manufacturing heyday and they bought lots of great art. Once they died (or lost money) the museum acquired a lot of it. If I remember, they also have a decent restaurant there too.
