Sure, they were all GREAT 50 years ago and they are never going to be the same. We all go for different reasons, travel near & far, go with no bucks or a bank roll. What made you happy at a swap meet in the last five years? Long needed part, fast flip for a quick profit, see an old friend, whatever made that day special. I found the only 1931 Ford Victoria door at Hershey last year that made my day after a three year search. Bob
Well our main swap meet has been “ruled/policied” out of existence! The facility kept making “small” changes in the contract to the point the founding clubs just said bugger it! I suspect the facility wants to mount its own based on our planning blueprint...
I always seem to find stuff I am not necessarily looking for. A couple years back it was a whole table of '50 Buick interior parts (including a very serviceable headlight switch) for decent money. Last year it was door latches for my 55, and a dual carb/exhaust manifold setup for the small straight eight. Granted, I've only been doing swap meets for car stuff for the last few years or so, so I don't know what I missed back in the day.
The triumphant feeling of finding that special part is unmatched. What makes me happy is the hunt for stuff I don't need. A close second is setting up and selling. Great face to face time with like minded people. It's nice to hook somebody up with a part they've been trying to find.
It looks like the BCHRA is going to have a swap meet at the Cloverdale Agriplex now May 30-31. Hopefully that works out
37 kid, thanks for a positive thread. Good vibes compared to the other one somebody put up yesterday.
While is not like the good old days, I still go and always find something good, I bought this Caddy 4x2 setup at the swap in Springfield Ohio last fall for about 1/3 of it’s value
At Portland EXPO the perfect wheel cover for $1. to make a chip & dip set to serve my friends chips & salsa ....
Bought this Navarro head thinking I could find the left one to match. Needle in a haystack. Looked into buying new one from H&H but too costly. Crazy thing is I just saw another single right head show up on Ebay for $$$. Go figure. MantuaJohn
Bob ( 37 Kid ) IMHO the best thing that you found at a flea market/ swap meet was close to your home. ( The Elephant Trunk ) the 1933-34 Willys grill that I bought from you after you got lost trying to find my house in Connecticut.
That was a fun time! Trunk is trying to open this Sunday, bad weather the past two weekends has caused the delay. I gave this Willys hood a new home last month, it is just outside the window looking at me. Willys lesson for me, the '39 hoods are different.
Sold my set of Canadian Monarch Lion caps (on here) and kinda regretted it thinking I’d never find another set. Last swap I vended at, wife let me take a last minute lap before we started packing up. Holy crap…..SCORE. Found another NIB set and as it was near the end of the swap meet, I got a pretty nice price. .
The most personally satisfying swap meet purchase in the past couple years would be the front Nicson header for GMC sixes that I found at Carlisle last fall to go with the rear header that I bought at least ten years ago.
