Well today I turned 43 years old and felt like sharing something with everyone. I've been holding back on some projects that I've quietly been working away on for the past 3 years so I figure why not share with the world what is coming very soon! As many may be familiar with my work restoring Hilborn Injection units, I have been tirelessly working on trying to keep things alive and going whether with owning the brand or not (still up in the air). I started a second business called Boss Fuel Injection a few years ago specific for this type of work. I decided to do my own castings and start with blower injectors to get things established and expand from there. So I'll share some pictures of some of the highlights I've guarded so closely for so long.
First up is the Short 4 Hole:

So with these castings I made a few different bore sizes in the castings to be able have a bores size of around a 2-1/8" all the way up to 3". They are excellent quality castings A356-T6 heat treated castings just like a cylinder head. I also dealt with any flaws or issues that were common and found a way to modernize them (especially the bottom side). Patterns turned out nice!

And last but not least is the Tall 4 Port:

Lots of work ahead once the castings arrive:

Also working with the Miller 3 Port which has three 4" Bores in it. Pretty neat piece! Wild Willie Borsch ran one on his Funny Car back in 1973.

DAMN that's Killer!!! If they didn't have your name cast in them, you'd never know that they weren't OG Hilborn! That is BAD ASS!!!

Serious stuff indeed! You've put in a lot of work. Great to see it coming together for you.

  10. I hope that enough people appreciate the time, effort, and money that you have invested. Your work looks fantastic. I hope that you can acquire Hilborn, as someone other than corporate bean counters deserves to have the name and products.

Bare Naked Lady, EFI Version I built for a friend. He has a Injector Plate already (goes underneath) different than what I make.

Impressive indeed. I hope that you can acquire the Hilborn corp name as well. It’s only fitting. You are trying to keep it alive. They aren’t. As stated earlier hope people appreciate the effort involved. And if I remember correctly you have had your plate full all the way around.

    This is incredible!!

    Stunning work sir!!!

Being just a couple years younger than you (41) I'm asking serious questions as what the hell I'm doing with life when folks like yourself are creating, reviving or maintaining these sorts of projects!!!

I hope it keeps moving forward in the way it has so far and you can acquire the Hilborn name to keep it real.

Your commitment of time and $$$ is impressive, many racers will be indebted to you. Did you also do the patterns?

@402BOSSMAN Beautiful work! I also hope that someone with the ambition to keep the core product and expand the line gets the name, rather than some conglomerate who is looking to thin competition or as a tax write off.
I know they worked in era, and with the blower below acting as a giant mixer the airflow is turbulent. I wonder if a CAD model of flow would help refine the lower shape of the scoop and injector body.
    For your consideration.

Great work. I can't tell you how long I spent looking for a 4 hole injector for the boat. Everyone said the 4 hole was the best way to get throttle response and be able to drive it for fun other than just wide open. If I wouldn't have stolen the blower for the car, I'd be all excited about the possibilities. I do like the scoops and hope you make one that has the carb base plate for dual 4s.

Nick, Didn't you do some work on Mike Finnigan's injector for his 55 or build him one? Thought I saw that on one of his Tube video.....

Correct, I fixed it for him. I watched his Sick Week videos and noticed all of the issues with it. He sent it in and I went through it to correct all of the issues. So far, so good! I completely remachined the casting, upgraded the shaft size to a 3/8", put my billet brass arms and stops on both ends, corrected the linkage geometry, built him a new TPS block with a common LS TPS sensor you can get at any parts store.

He also asked me to build a secondary throttle body to go where his burst panel is. He runs a stripped blower on Blasphemi so it adds heat and wears out quick. He wants to remove the blower belt and operate off this secondary throttle body going down the road. I built him this to try out on the fly.

I didn't do these patterns. I'm considering doing a few of them to get my feet wet. Pattern work can get expensive. Sometimes you just got to pay the many, quality is number one for me on this stuff.

I do not plan to make a scoop for carbs. I believe there is someone already doing that. Just don't see the volume to be financially viable for me to pursue.

Good stuff! I hope he finally stops breaking everything!

I'd think the street use numbers would be larger than race as far as 4 bbl VS 4 port, but it would bring up two things; dilute the brand and then cries for a suitable filter, which would then move even further from race only stuff. Also different spacings, which gets even more work for smaller numbers.

Here is a really cool project. I was asked to restore this Offy Injector for a gentleman restoring the car. My oldest son Nathan wanted to help me in the shop that day so at 14 years old I turned him loose on my mill to machine some throttle shafts with me over his shoulder. He made three that day to perfection and proceeded to rebuild about half of this injector. I finished it up the next day and called the gentleman to let him know I was done with it and how much insurance should I put on his package to return it? He said "well it's priceless how do I put a number to that?" I asked him why was it priceless? His response was "that injector belongs to Mario Andretti, I'm restoring his car right now." So after the shock wore off I asked my son to take a picture with me holding it in his hands. He doesn't realize what he did yet still this day, but later on he will figure it out. I asked him to relay a message to Mario that my son restored half of this injector at 14 years old!

My dad was one in a million, but wow! Your son has so many great opportunities before him and even if he follows a different career path he will always have memories of working side by side with you.
