The first one probably never had more than 250hp in it but as light as it was it was probably a handful.

Great stock for the "Wall of Shame".....so many had the desire to build something even if they lacked the proper equipment or knowledge, like building a 1940's-50's first-time downhill coaster from cast off wagon or buggy wheels, a pile of lumber & a make-do wood crate for a body salvaged from behind the local independent grocery store, the fever usually developed with the most humbled beginnings....... Perhaps we should give credit where credit is due, our true roots.

I wouldn't think they would bothered with upholstery if it wasn't a decent driver at one time.

I was racing at a national event at a drag strip many years ago. My friend had recently bought a red and yellow Fiat altered and had also entered the race. I had looked at the car a few days earlier and it was, to me, clearly unsafe.
    Crummy welds
    Muffler tubing cage
    Yada yada
A red and yellow Fiat altered made a pass and I watched as the car got loose in the lights, rolled and tumbled through the lights and pretty much disintegrated, killing the driver instantly.
I got visibly ill and vomited at the thought of him dying and me never having said anything to him about what a wretched piece of junk he had just bought.

Turns out, there was another red and yellow Fiat altered at the race. It was not my friends car that crashed. When I saw him I was so relieved and I then implored him to get a safer ride. He did.

I hope none of your friends or family ever has to vomit at a drag strip...
