now that I have everyone's attention, using the speedway catalog strictly for reference, they sell a 16 inch rubber brake hose for early fords. measured mine and yeah, 16 inches is what I need. here's the rub, I want to go through the boxed frame with what they call a bulk head fitting, only problem i have is the bulk head fittings i've found come with AN fitting on the hose side for braided street rod shit. are there any through the frame bulk heads that have the old style rubber hose flare to screw the old style rubber hose to?
You could buy a couple 5/8 bolts, drill a hole through the length, tap it to 1/8 pipe thread, then you have unlimited choices of fittings.
Why don’t you use the normal way of attaching the end of the hose going through the frame with a clip or nut?
So what i think i need is a 1/8 female NPT to 1/8 female NPT by around two inches long bulkhead to pass through the frame on each side which i can make with a 5/8 bolt as suggested above or i can save time by picking up said items locally but it has to be long enough to pass through the boxed frame
Could you by chance weld something like this into the frame? We weld this fitting into hydraulic tanks... Oh, and the title is what lured me in...
I’m not sure a bulkhead fitting will be long enough to go through both sides either. How about a small hole in one side of the frame for the fitting and a slightly larger hole in the other side for a box wrench?
availability isn't a problem if I wanted to use braided stainless brake hose, and for frame thicknesses from 1.5 up to 2 inches wide. If the local hydraulic hose place doesn't have what i need, I'll just make one out of a bolt. I was hoping someone had a source for one
I used the braided stuff with the AN fitting when I built my truck as I couldn’t find what I needed either. I ended up just putting heat shrink tubing over the lines. Looks ok IMO? (I don’t have a pic currently but can get one if needed.)
the more i study it, this might be my only option, the rubber hose I'm wanting to use doesn't come with a swivel fitting on one end so it doesn't allow tightening between two fixed points without twisting all up. I'll use the AN bulkhead through the frame and braided hose and disguise it as best as possible. I want to thank everybody for sharing their thoughts on the subject. the last speedway catalog i received was the one with jeff on the cover. I meant no disrespect to jeff when using it. just my warped mind trying to convey a message to you guys. guess I'll be calling speedway for the parts i need. thanks again
Or you could go to your local hydraulic shop and have them make up a couple of rubber hoses with AN (JIC) fittings on the ends. Probably cheaper than Speedway too.
Weld a little tab below the frame to hold the end of the stock hose. Much easier to get at for maintenance than inside the frame rail. Or bolt on some 40’s Ford hose brackets.
that was suggested by someone at garage night, have to look at that again, i'd mount the tab on the bottom but towards the inside of the frame rail. in doing so, the 16 inch hose length starts looking tight. wheel cylinders came with the lincoln style brake kit, i'd have to check the thread size to be sure but i believe it to be 7/16-20
Here is the DOT approved hose I would use. The 3/16" braided stainless is covered with black pvc. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1144112126...B4GAA5&hash=item1aa3708f94:g:yn4AAOSw31pfYYvH I have purchased from this seller with no problem. It may be available with black connectors? All the DOT approved Goodridge hoses are hard to find.
pics of brake lines and shocks on both boxed and unboxed frames tab on top tab on bottom Un boxed, through the frame boxed again, tab on top fuck it, go back to mechanical
