Perhaps the start of a new race track. We had a lot of pictures like that around here in 1979, only the jackets all said Greater Fairbanks Racing Association.

  6. Frank Marrata's model "A" coupe the "Rake".. Did you notice the narrowed fenders ? Frank was the owner of Connecticut Drag-way. Frank also owned New England Auto Body on Hudson Street in Hartford, Connecticut. The coupe is now owned by Dean Schimetochek of Haddam. Connecticut.

Maratta must have narrowed the fenders and boards some time after the Hot Rod magazine feature, I never knew about that until you had mentioned it in an earlier post.

  13. You know it is a HotRod when it has Moon Eyes in the window and "tuck n roll" upholstery on the inside top and sides. Probably has a "tuck n roll" spare tire cover in the trunk along with a chrome fire extinguisher and chrome lug wrench.

awesome that he still has it

Definitely the definition of sitting on it rather than in the car, I think it's cool

the early black and white pic and what it involved into, almost like he had a vision and stuck to it, so cool

Looks like a very early pic of my hometown dragstrip, Castlereagh, in western Sydney. Closed many years ago due to the urban sprawl housing development. Great pic and one I don't think I have seen before. Cheers

The early photos of the 1934 Ford Altered Coupe from the Drifters Car Club of Redondo Beach, in So Cal, have been around for quite some time.

It was the stance and appearance of the white 1934 coupe that made people look. It looked fast just sitting in the pits or on the dragstrip. In this case, it was at Lion’s Dragstrip.

Whether it has/had red steel wheels or the ever popular Moon Spun Aluminum Discs, the look was there and it just said … “Let’s Race…” 50s-60s style.

Glen Stokey once drove this FED at Lions. We all knew him as the Clay Smith guy, since he had a red FED with a woodpecker on the body. He was one of the top racers at the time. We were partial to Clay Smith sponsored racers as the CS Cams shop was several blocks from our house in the Westside of Long Beach. This is the same Glen Stokey that was a part of the Drifters Car Club from Redondo Beach.

Also, in this screen shot from clip in the pits at Lions, it looks like a small child pops up next to the racing slick on the left side, in front of a guy in a brown leather jacket. Anyone know who it might be back in 59-60?
