850 made total between the Z and PL models including soft top pickup models as well as the hard top model one as pictured.
So it's a very rare one but they're cheap, you ain't gonna break the bank buying one, restoring it is a whole lot different story.
About 10 years ago I used to drive a blue PL pickup.

I don't have a clue what that is but I like it. Soooo much potential. Sort of a Sean Connery meets Bob Falfa mix up

I would love to drive around in that Panhard with the camper shell thing on the back, it's so foreign it's almost alien. Like they say, the French copy no one, and no one copies the French.

You'd be surprised how well the 850cc runs until you hit an incline. But I can tell you that the most powerful ones have a top speed of 100mph and a standard sedan can run 80mph all day.
Then you can punch them out to 950cc convert them to twin spark plugs with twin carbs, there even was an after market blower for them.
Race only can be bored up to 1.2L but the engine don't last. With a lot of machining some people made 4 valves heads too, ultra rare to find nowadays.
The best bet is to find an aluminum Z1 and throw in there a 950cc, modify the rear axle and front suspension like the one found on the DB HBR5 or the CD so it doesn't oversteer as much, disc brakes from a PL24.
That makes quite a sleeper : 710kg with the full upholstery and 90/95hp.

I was wondering about doing what the 2CV guys do and replacing the motor with a BMW boxer motorcycle engine. Some of those are 120hp iirc. They're a good bit heavier than the Citroen, but you'd have far better aero. Would probably make for a pretty quick car.

I know there were some people putting the BMW rotating assembly inside the Panhard engine block, the last l heard of them some years ago they were making the oiling system with tubing because the Panhard was just a rudimentary splash oiling because it's using needle and roller bearings instead of solid bearings like everybody else and you can't pressurize them.
By the way the Panhard engine is way more efficient than the 2cv. When Citroën bought Panhard in the 60's they tried to simplify the Panhard engine with catastrophic results.

It was a good little motor for the time. Incredible to get 60hp (?) from such a small thing.

Can you imagine what the stuff under the tarps look like? Those tarps tends to trap the moisture under the tarp.
