What 16" fan have yall used that you would recommend? Ive got a cheap chinese one on there and it works but it could be a little better. Its mounted on a shroud on my radiator. I would just like to move a little more air when I add the ac condenser out front. Ive looked at the flexalite and proform. I was just curious if anyone had any first hand experience.

The best fan you can fit to an old car is the engine driven one the factory put on that engine. Nothing else comes close to flowing the same amount of air.

I’ve got a Spal electric one on the race car, it’s got the most flow of anything of that size but I wouldn’t want to be sitting in traffic in a city in the summer with AC. The stock engine driven one in the Merc however has no problem at all.

id recommend a 16" spal fan i ordered a curved vane but got a straight blade.vendor offered $100 discount and i accepted.curved vane is subbosed to be quieter.it sure moves a lot of air when it cycles on.i like it.im sure if you can find 50 s rushour traffic to drive in the stock fan will be fine.im driving in 21st century traffic

    I like SPAL or Mishimoto.
Make sure you get one that goes the direction you need. Some can be a pusher or a puller, others only work one way.

fan/rad combo works with the fan on the engine side of the rad.keep the fan up high where its sucking the hottest coolant.fans are quiet narrow keep the fan motor above your water pump pulley.if the fan is in front of the rad it will mask some of the radiator surface when its not operating.use coolant and an expansion tank for best cooling.there is an electrical box that can be programmed for a slow/easy start and a delay when you turn the engine off to keep it running til it cools down.mine is wired so it stays running til the temp drops down..not good if you have a dodgy battery so you will need a good battery charging system for best results

  6. If you are considering an electrical unit, the 1st gen Ford taurus is an economical answer. That version is 2 speed. The low speed will run on a 30 amp relay but the high speed requires a 70 amp relay. If you have ac and need air at low speed, a fan that does a real 2500 cfm is your answer. I used to be a Cooling Components fan but the prices have gone out of sight.

A 50 Pontiac should have a lot of room to use a stock 4, 5, or 6 blade mechanical fan with shroud. Our 73 Monte Carlo had at least a 10 inch wide shroud. You can buy an aluminum kit from Speedway for your core size and then attach the included aluminum for the “tube” I’ve even added more for our circle track engine. Photo is of a kit mounted vertical on a 40 Chevrolet and painted BBQ black. IMG_2895.jpeg

Is just had my first test using a 16” Flex-A-lite, Flex Wave puller fan. 3000 cfm, they claim. Bracket racing on the weekend I could keep the temp at 160 easily. It’s cooling a big block Ford 502 cid with a fairly healthy cam. So far so good. IMG_1376.jpeg

It's worth mentioning if you look at factory style fans, the pitch is important. The larger the number the more air it will pull.

I have a 7-blade factory fan on a car that over heats. I replaced everything but the fan, then looked up the fan part number to find it's only got 1/2" pitch. The factory specified 2-1/2" pitch for the car/engine originally.
