    This is just my opinion....
    Wise choice.

Coupes don’t chop well. Nothing is gained and lot is lost when Shoebox Coupe is chopped.
    Sedans ? That’s totally different.

Some say coupes should be sectioned. I can see that and they do look good sectioned but in my opinion it takes away from that bulbous look that a shoebox coupe has. Sectioned, they look futuristic which now means a sporty 60s70s sportscar look.

SBC will get lost in there, you need something a wee bit larger, like 392 inches

Couple more parts of the puzzle completed. Front and rear splash shields and gas fill door. Pics show a bit of the color shift this color goes through which is why I liked it.
A bunch of small parts got sand blasted and put into epoxy. 20250502_174932.jpg 20250502_174554.jpg

Might be a bit before anything note worthy happens. My house was built in the 30s. Garage barely fits the 50. It probably won't fit with fenders installed. I need to get it back in the tent to make progress.
Put the 1/4 and door moldings in the car tonight. 1 door molding is crushed. The others need some buffing and dent removal. Need some more paint to paint interior parts. Wife is picking at the seat. Need to spend some $ which are tight. Thus far I have been working off materials I have on hand.
Next purchases will be a headliner, rear window gasket and drive shaft, and left manifold. Then get it wired and running.
AMX will be coming back shortly and I'd like to get the dual quad manifold on it this year. I'll do my best to keep this project moving forward and this thread updated. Hopefully I will grab the last load of parts next week.
Appreciate everyone's comments, input, and interest.

It maybe true, but it just turns into blah…not at all interesting. If it makes the car move forward and backwards then it’s good choice for the sheep.

    Hello,

My wife and I in our 20s and were looking to find a project similar, in various stages of build points. What ever we purchased, a full project or repair to the build, it had to be able to store my new 8 foot long speed surfboard design. The problem for us was, yes, it can be stuffed in the open trunk. But, it stuck out too far. Measured, it could go sideways inside with the rear seat opening to the trunk clear. Now, the nose could go between the bucket seats.

For us, it was a step away from a station wagon or older Ford Sedan Style hot rod. But the owner did modify the motor with multiple carbs and sounded nice upon start up when we saw it in an old dirty garage. We made him an offer, he flatly refused . My wife looked at him and was amazed he was so unruly and not nice. The offer was about 50 dollars less than his price, as we only brought cash.

So, we walked out and our plans for the 50 Ford Coupe was history. But, it always stayed in our minds as a nice body style and would fit the new shorter surfboard. (Locked inside, if and when we left the car alone.)

At the time, we did not have any more money and the owner was being a hardball. So, we left to look at another hot rod that was nearby a few miles into the industrial area. But, ever since, we always wondered what that 50 Ford Coupe would have looked like if we had bought it and continued our modifications, as we were able to get some funds.

Recently, I drew a modified version of what the 50 Ford Coupe would look like if we had continued with the purchase.

A new SBC motor, 4 speed and a lowered rake stance with custom wheels + A/C. (perhaps even some scallop pinstriping…) Now, that would provide space for the shorter surfboard and have a place to lock our photo equipment sight unseen, on our long road trips all over the place. There would still be room for a tent and camping stuff, too. YRMV

Leave the back glass and seal out when you do the headliner. It makes the headliner install so much easier.

Thanks. That was the plan. I want to do the headliner prior to installing the rear window, doors and glass.

Next purchases will be the exhaust manifold I believe will work (mid 80s chevy truck) and drive shaft. Once it can move under it's own power i can play car lot attendant. Right now the Ford is in my small garage which does not leave room to work. I'll set up the tent which allows me to work on the car but I would have to push it into and out of the garage which I can not do alone.
Alternatively the AMX goes in the garage but with a non-running car the AMX becomes land locked. 1st world problems, I know!

  17. Another passenger manifold that may work is a 55/56 265 manifold. I have them on the 350 in my 53 bel air

I believe this one will fit.
I have one similar but it moves away from the block as it travels towards the rear. This one appears to remain parallel to the block.

Is that a left manifold or a right manifold on the left? Sorry for my ignorance but the 55 next to me has a blown 392 Hemi.

  21. I used 2 rights (passenger side) the left has an alternator provision that I don’t need. Plus these were free and all the guy had :)
The 265 ports are smaller but I fixed that with a die grinder.

  22. Like @anthony myrick said. Left and right castings are near identical aside from a factory left having a generator mount. I'm running a set of 55 manifolds on my 53 Chevy

  23. Dang it.
    A generator mount.
Exhaust exits are the same (or really close)

Thanks for the info. I'll have to take a look and see if those will work. Only issue I can think of is it might have to work around the cross member cross member. 20240825_185145.jpg

  25. Hold on. I'll show how it fits on my 53 Chevy. Lot harder for than a shoebox.

  26. Closer to the frame on a 53 Chevy plus I had to work around the goofy stock steering. Be a breeze in a shoebox IMG_20250506_183350_HDR.jpg

Not a chance on my shoebox - block huggers cleared by about 1/8"....I assume the tru rams may clear too - I wanted old parts, so the 55 manifolds were the only ones that worked for me

  29. What's nice about the 55/56 manifolds is high up they dump. It's just too bad they aren't both rear dump. Would have saved a good bit of work on my 53 lol
