Vintage Sun Tune Up, Testers, Scopes, Analyzer, Distributor Thread

    Yeah I think that is the part I have at home. I will take pics of it but it is sealed up so not sure what it looks like on the inside.

    OK, I know where the part is but I cannot access it at the moment. I thought I had a picture of it but apparently don't. Give me a few days to move my car and I will see about digging it out.

    ~ SOLD ~ This Sun meter came with a parts lot I bought. Part number on box 604 206
    I know nothing about it, but that the glass is loose.
    Does it have any worth? Or just trash it.

    I suspect that your volt gauge might be a non-working unit that was taken from some piece of Sun test equipment. The failed gauge was removed and placed in the box that the new gauge came in. Maybe it was supposed to be returned to Sun to be refurbished. Or to be desroyed and scrapped. Sun tended to lease most of their equipment. When the lease ended and the equipment was replaced, they were notorious for usually destroying the off-lease stuff. They didn't want their used equipment to dilute the market potential for their new equipment.

    Even if it didn't work it might be worth something just to fill a hole on someone's volt/amp tester. Might even be the same gauge used in the older tune-up scope engine analyzer consoles. Or maybe like something that a "steam-punk" maker should be interested in.

    I've made some progress on my Sun 200 set! First in regard to my missing spark plug lead for the EDT unit, I found another unit on eBay that had the lead, and glad I got it as there's more too it than I thought. I also repaired all of the positive negative leads I had. All my wire was good, but some had been cut short and others had missing or damaged clips. Hunting down clips AND matching boots took some homework. Also, 10 feet seems to be the magic lead length. My intact leads were all 10', so I spliced the broken ones to match. I also found reprints and a couple original manuals to teach me how to use this stuff. The TDT unit takes a 'D' size and a 'AA' size battery, and I had to clean a lot of corrosion when the battery juices leaked out, but I think I'm getting power into the unit now.

    A big improvement was fabbing up a stand for the set. I designed it to use some materials I had, while also trying to keep things minimal and easy to push around. I intentionally, made the base with heavy wall tubing to give it some weight. I made it tall enough so I can see the meters over fenders, and the shelf bellow is just enough room for manuals, an extra meter or two, and a handful of tools, making the stand "just" for tuneups. For paint I used GM metallic light blue, as it seems pretty close to the original unrusted Sun color. I also sewed up a simple canvas cover to keep the dust off of the gages.

    Now I just need to hook it all up and see how it works!

    Picked up this TUT 915 from a High School Shop a couple years ago. Thought I would post it here before classified ads. It is cool & lights up other wise untested. I need the space. Guess I could flip it over and hang from the ceiling as a wall hanger. Any idea of valve other than what ever someone is willing to pay? Enjoy. Located in central Wisconsin
