Hello,

My brother and I went to the 2nd annual Bakersfield Smokers March Meet in 1960. We missed going to the first one in 1959 and said that the next one is it, we had to go there. Go there it was, on a long drive to and from, an early morning to late at night, road trip for a drag race event. But, what a drag race event it was.

From the opening gates to the late afternoon change over to film the races with the sun to my back, it was a chore to move all over the crowded dragstrip. Especially, if I wanted a front row/chain link fence position next to the track. The bubble headed lady next to me was not nice, in stature and aroma. It was late afternoon and she was finished for the day… whew! What I went through to show my brother and our friends the latest drag race movie on our Westside of Long Beach living room wall the following week.

The day was outstanding and I was lucky to be in the right spot for filming the historic event in March of 1960.
