Spent a couple weeks prepping for the big show here in the state, had just under 1,000 cars.....the '49 did good. Drove home 300 miles in a giant rainstorm....
I don't know why but it seems bizarre to me to have Gene do the custom work on a car and then wrap it rather than have him paint it as well.
Could be a lot of reasons for that. I don't know when Gene did the custom work, but maybe Gene didn't feel up to it at the time, maybe the owner couldn't swing the price of paint, just the cost of materials is crazy expensive, maybe the owner just wanted to drive it, and not have it in primer. The cost to wrap a car is a whole lot less than painting it. Back here in the midwest you can get a car wrapped for about $2500.00. Wrap it, drive it, save money for paint job, have it painted then. Maybe he was like all the rest of us, and thought Gene would live forever, and that didn't happen. Nice car though.
Recently sold after 50 + years of care by a friend. He got it for a $100 bar tab at our "car bar". Didn't look anything like this at the time.
Saw this poor thing while I was driving down the freeway yesterday Snapped a quick pick out the car window.
