Not sure I can live up to the name, but I sold the deuce. I want to try to build something from scratch.....
So, not sure I can live up to the title, but I found a motor and 39 trans on marketplace 4 miles from my house.
couple days later took my tractor to the cemetary a mile down the road ot clean up some stuff and saw this over the bank. The owner of the property indroduced my parents. Pretty sure it will be "Free just drag it out". The car gods are shining on this one.
It is all apart and soaking in rust dissolve (911). They look good, it is rust flakes from the tower, which was rusted tight. I got it all moving smoothly and soaked it as well. Diesel soak/scrub next.
Just registered this trailer my next door neighbor gave me 3 years ago. I may need to open it up to see if it is viable for the car....... if not al least there are two wheels and hubs LOL
exercising patience on the one stubborn stud on this side, but motor looks good so far. The rtv on the head gasket on the other side is worrisome, but we will see.
From here i can just see the shadow of hydraulic style brake backing plate so that makes it a 1939 Ford rear end. Finding everything so close to home is a blessing in this day and age. Time saving at its best.
of course there are no gears in it and the springs are welded on........ Nothing but water in the rearend. No gears either though. Wheels are good and have all the hub cap clips.
Unless I run the wheels form the old wood splitter......LOL gotta love resourceful New England farmers. On the bad site the gears in the 39 Trans are all pitted and a tower fork is cracked. At least I got a 78 case and parts. Tempted to get his side loader trans to see if that has good gears in it.

Yep... pitting on almost all of them. I only paid $150 so with a good case I figure I am OK. The guy had a side loader Trans too so I will check the gears on that one and maybe get one a good trans out of the two.

My guess was a long sitting motor that they tossed new antifreeze in and got it running then pulled. Pretty green antifreeze, then this........ water pumps turn and look ok though.
I did get the stubborn stud out and 4 on the other side, then my stud puller fell apart. it did about 5 engines before breaking, so I wordered another. (Not that I have built 5 Engines, I took 5 apart, LOL).
You're lucky! So much of the farmland here has been bought up over the last 25 years by the N.Y.C Watershed (New York City's drinking water comes from upstate) by the city people themselves, or for wedding venues and the homemade wagons from Ford parts have been scraped! I was buying them when I found them. You can always tell when an old house or farm has been sold because the metal dumpster at is full of vintage stuff, I have saved a few things a set of 33/34 wishbones, an axle, 63-67 Corvette bumpers, and some old race programs from the newspaper container.
My older neighbor is one of those guys that people call when they are trying to get rid of stuff, as he is willing to take stuff to fix some day. The trailer and the splitter are examples. His winter project was a 1920's tractor that had a frozen motor. Someone gave it to him. it is running now. He is very resourceful in finding, repairing or making obscure parts.
Slowly tearing down the motor. All 48 studs came out. I did break one stud removal tool...LOL Looks like Standard pistons. Grabbed my hand crank and everything rotates like it should. The oil looked OK, not sludge filled. Dropping the oil pan next so I can get the pressure plate and fly wheel off. At that point I will decide if I take it all the way down and get it dipped and checked. I am not sure it will end up a "Budget" build, but certainly not a show build. I want something to play in the dirt with.
