I don't know how involved some of you get with things like your internet service quality or speeds. But I seem to get more sluggish, slow page loads on the HAMB, specifically when using Firefox as my main browser. The site loads noticeably quicker when using the Brave browser and I have no desire to use Google Chrome.

Firefox works smoothly and quickly for other websites I use regularly and I haven't knowingly made any changes in browser settings. The browser is the most current stable version and I'm running it on a laptop with Win 10 and a desktop with Win 7. My ISP is an AT&T cellular connection to a wireless WiFi hotspot that's within 30' of my PCs. It's not the fastest speed service by any means but usually works well enough for 90% of my usage. I'm not streaming high def movies or doing online gaming.

Are there any browser settings in particular that I might alter that would improve page loading speed? I get the sense that my cellular internet service can come from any number of different servers that are not necessarily local to me, sometime one or two states away. Or is it maybe just a matter that the HAMB has lots of pages and many of them have lots of photos and images to download?

It's not related to our sever... Site has been humming as of late.

I would suggest you clear your browser cookies and history and try again. Also, ad blockers can really slow a site down.

That's the old "turn off your adblocker and everything will be fine" trick.....;)

Think I remember clearing cookies and cache a few months ago but it didn't seem to make any improvement. But hadn't thought about something like an ad-blocker causing things to bog down. That gives me something else to dive into.

Thanks for giving me another avenue to pursue.

Firefox doesn't seem too have a built in ad-blocker by default, and I haven't added one as a browser extension. I did find some settings for Advanced Tracking Protection and disabled it for the Jalopy Journal but still haven't seen any improvement. The feature is not disabled for any other websites.

Sorry I haven’t heard anything about FIRFOX in a decade or more…
I thought it was like many tech companies they just disappeared?
The last time I saw it offered on a new computer was in the early 2000s so it’s been awhile.

    Hello,
It does not matter if you are using Firefox as fast/slow as you are. Your laptop is using Windows 10 not the latest Windows 11 upgrade. And a desktop with Win 7 is years ago. Time to upgrade to Windows 11 and get all of the amenities that the new upgrade offers. There is a slight extension Microsoft is offering for all Win 10 folks to transfer over to Win 11 programs.

Since my wife's desktop was using the old Win 10 set up which came with her powerful old computer. We were going to do the free transfer. We decided that a new computer is not out of the question and was needed. But, not waiting until the conversion could take place, we got a more powerful home computer for her that came with the latest Windows 11 set up installed.

It is so much better and everything seems to run faster and the programs like Word and photo images are superb. Windows powered computer. Intel 9, 1 tb hard drive for tons of saving space, as well as lots of ram. The monitor looks as if it is a larger Apple Iphone in clarity and colors. Plus, it is fast and not one problem has been encountered. No, it is not an over the counter model from Best Buy.

There is a shop down in a local industrial area that has been making home computers, business computers, laptops and other builds for years. We have had them make us many different versions of home computers without any hitches for the past 25 years.

But, the units that are for sale at Best Buy are good if one sticks to well known models and companies, too. The powerful builds are stock items and can be bought as fast as your credit card passes tech inspection. Ha! Time to get a new laptop. Our notes: stick with Windows 11, Intel processors as fast as you can get. and lots of Ram. A 1tb hard drive is fine for many uploads and won't fill up fast. If it does go over 1/2 full in several years, don't worry, just buy a 4 or 5 TB external hard drive that will fit in your shirt pocket and hold everything for many years, including all of your home digital files.

As far as HAMB, it is a great site and if logged in, no ads. Both Firefox and Google are relatively ad free as their own company tech has the best ad blockers built in place. Plus, when I get a notice from hot rod site that says, "sorry, disable your ad blocker to get access to the information..." I delete the site and move on to another site. Not worth it...

For some reason you don't like Google. Although it is the best in search tendencies and information, Firefox is also good for the similar information. As far as I am a good computer user, Google is the best and works flawlessly all of the time. Despite the government trying to break up Google, it is still the best. YRMV

Most Google searches use the requested information... "32 hot rod sedan." They will use up almost two pages of old hot rod information and then branch off into the terms, "hot and rod" separately creating some odd ball search information. By then, the hot rod information is gone and time to move to another question for your search request. ha!

    Note:
My wife's computer is almost as fast as my fast/ powerful Alienware laptop and the screen colors and photos pop out like there is no tomorrow. The Windows 11 works best and is flawless. But, I can move around the house to work on my laptop. She likes it better in the office with a larger 27 inch screen.
