History Dick “Magoo” Tbucket

Was wondering if anyone can shed some more light on this car. Pictures and info would be helpful. I have a couple pictures, one looks like from a Solvang car show, and the other from the LA Roadster book.

 

Are you seeking information that Dick Megugorac may have built that car? Magoo’s specialty in the era that would have been built was highboy roadsters, primarily Model A’s along with a few ‘32’s. Neat car but I don’t think he had anything to do with it.

 

it was confirmed that Dick Megugorac did build the car in about 1965 and it was sold to another LA roasters member named Bob Heatherington in 1967. By the way this was his 26-27 T. So I don’t think he was only into highboys.

I’ve seen the for sale ad, and it was posted in a tbucket thread. If there’s more, I haven’t seen any more info than what I’ve gotten or read.

 

@Moriarity yep yep, talked to Ronnie Mayes about the car. That one picture that he posted was from a meet up at Solvang. Which I believe he (Magoo) also had another T there he built.

I think that car showed up in some of the California rod trot magazine coverage in that time frame. Never featured but in a photo here and there.

From what you see in the photos that Ronny Mayes posted in his add about the only thing you would see is maybe a better detailed photo of the engine or interior .

Engine would be a 283 or 327 with a three carb intake and what look like Cal Custom valve covers and probably a decent cam. Those and the 265 were all that were available small block wise up to 65. That's if you want to stay build time correct. Money wise, outside down the Magoo build connection it all comes down to the simple fact of can you build a roller with pretty much the same pieces minus engine and trans for less than his asking price and how good are you at bargaining. Cash green money in the hand talks BS walks. Just looking at the Speedway T bucket stuff you might be hard pressed to buy their kit and all the attending pieces minus engine and trans for that price. If the car has a clear up to date title in Mayes name that is worth some coin just in the avoided hassles.
Personally, If I wanted it, I'd just put a nice running mild small block and aluminum glide in it and a fresh set of tires and drive the wheels off it after going through the usual safety items.

I wanna say they are like the offenhauser ones from that period. My buddy has a set that aren’t predrilled and just cast. Pretty cool

I'd imagine they were produced by a number of different companies and even high schoolers.
I haven't dug into who was the originator.
These are on mine. They look straighter than the Offys or the ones on @PG 's.

 

I'll mention there is a YouTube channel that has a ton of old movies from the 60s centered on the west coast rods. I can't seem to find it right now, and don't have it bookmarked. It's been mentioned in the Love For T-Buckets thread and others. You might find this in those old movies.

@RodStRace yea, I’ve watched a fair amount of those and I believe I’ve seen my car in one of them.

Im trying to talk to the editor from that magazine to see if he has those videos or more pictures

Are you suggesting that’s the same T-Bucket as the one supposedly built by Magoo?

 

@Fordors No. Just showing the link and a couple of the cars that were in the video.
This was back in Jan 2025, I can't speak for Snick, but I did not know in Jan. this car was going to be asked about in May.
Steering wheel, windshield and colors are the most quickly spotted differences. No suggestion implied!

 

I believe that phaeton next to the yellow t was also Dicks.

 

In your first pic the car is wearing L.A. Roadster decal and plate so why not ask the club for the info you're chasing. You'd need one of the older members who was there in the right time-frame. Deuce Daddy Don on here is still a member but not active now. You could try him.

I'm glad someone bought that thing. I remember seeing it for sale and its got a great look. The fact that Magoo built it I bet it drives great too.
