We need ya Jack don’t give up on us. I remember when the OT Forum started and many preached the ruination of HAMB, I think it’s better than ever. I’ll bet ya a cup of coffee that the vast majority of the Art Show will be traditional stuff. The reason is that the bulk of the members are into the old school stuff, ain’t going to change much I think we’ll see some muscle car stuff etc. which I think the majority also appreciates.

  2. As someone who has long been an admirer of what is posted here on the FAS, I’m glad it’s being allowed to expand beyond just traditional art and related content. Sure, there are going to be a few naysayers who will probably disagree but this thread is for artists who want to post their work. For me it’s just being able to see what people are doing and experimenting with in the art world.

    Hey @Sharpone
I have to totally agree with you, I thought for sure, with the addition of the OT forum, that it was going to be not interesting, and that it would be the beginning of something less, than what @Ryan had envisioned the H.A.M.B. to be in the first place.

The more I have learned about Ryan Cochran's history of who he is and what his father was all about, there is a lot more to the H.A.M.B. than just traditional Hot Rods!

But my attitude has changed on that, and for me personally, it allows me to keep up with such cool builds as the current "CHEEP" project that is being built by @squirrel, with out the OT forum, we would have not been able to watch the interesting progress!

So as far as what the (FAS) will evolve into, now that some restrictions have been removed, that is going to depend on all of the contributors, as to what they will dig out of their personal archives to post!

And to my fellow contributor/artist/and all around great renegade @hotrodjack33 , stay with us brother, and continue to post up and share your great artwork.
    Thanks from Dennis.

the forum is called off topic hot rods and customs so automotive is a given, stop bitching and moaning about it. this will be what the participants make of it. The last thing needed is members throwing stones.....

I've delete all my "bitch fest" posts...for the good of the HAMB.
Still don't agree, but in the grand scheme of things, it's certainly not the end of the world.
My apologies to both of you.

1949 custom Mercury for cruising and daily driving…

    Hello,

When we were window shopping in Ojai during Thanksgiving Vacation one year before the Pandemic, this model reminded us of one of our goals. It is to rent an Airstream Travel Trailer located in the deep woods of Northern California. Those Airstream trailers are all over the state parks and beaches in California. But, during the high season, reservations are a must, especially in those popular beachside or even deep forested area locations. Up to a year in advance is the recommended procedure.

As we walked down the main street of Ojai, one window caught my eye. As I was waiting for my wife to complete “her” shopping inside, I kept looking at that small Mercury Sedan and matching trailer.

The 1949 Mercury chopped sedan towing an Airstream trailer is about 1:12 scale being almost 15 inches long each.)

So, I kept that memory and photo for another art project as soon as I could get to it. Well, 5 years later, I got around to it. But, in the meantime, I gave my wife a little reminder of what was planned for … “one day, we will rent an Airstream Trailer deep into the forested woods in California.” Going to those “not so popular”, but accessible Airstream Trailers located in the woods is to our liking, we have to pick and choose the time of the year.

The new addition to our small collection/project drawer. This time, it stays stock as the 55 Chevy station wagon already had a tow hitch and the little silver trailer fit right on for those long hauls. The neat thing is, it is one of the only small cars still sitting out in our house. All of the other ones are safely tucked away in a drawer waiting for me to do some work. YRMV

Since summer is the high season, we will probably go during the spring or fall, staying away from the school/college vacation days.

    Note:

The little kid day memories everyday afterschool are as sharp as a tack. As soon as the day was over, I had to walk 5 blocks home, crossing the major street in the whole neighborhood, without a red stop light. Not even a red stop sign was around back then. So, it was look both ways and run for safety. Safety being the Mobil Gas Station on the corner, on the way home several blocks away.

The first thing was to stop and get an ice cold Coke. Then it was sharing/listening to stories given to me by the manager/owner of the Mobil Gas Station. He knew my dad and was a talkative guy. Afterwards, I drifted back to the working garage mechanic spaces. In one of the far open spaces, was an upholstery shop. He did household sofas and custom car interiors.

So, as I wandered back to the mechanic’s shop, I noticed his black Mercury sedan. It had the 4 prong Lancer Hubcaps or the three prong Oldsmobile Flipper Hubcaps. The experience was a daily occurrence and one day, I would be asking the mechanic about working on our teenage cars…

@Moriarity @Jeff Norwell Just a thought on the new format, and I don't know if it's possible, but maybe still pin it to the top of the H.A.M.B. section every Friday through the weekend as usual so the guys that don't make it over here still get to see it every week, and that'll help still keep it special being the "Friday Art Show"....and happy Friday everyone :)

When I was at the Portland Transmission Spring Classic this year several people noticed the HAMB Alliance tag on my roadster and at least 5 of them told me that while they aren't members, they never miss the Friday Art Show. One of them even said he sends some of his artwork to a HAMB member he knows to post for him occasionally. I thought that was awesome, as is the Art Show itself and all of the contributors and artist types that make it special. I don't contribute but I do take a look around at the exhibits nearly every week.

    Hey @gilty
    Howdy from Dennis in Seattle.
    WOW !
Man that is an excellent drawing of @J.Ukrop Joeys roadster as it was with the BANGER engine in it!
I am very impressed by your style!

The one I did with the "ROYAL STANDARD" logo from the typewriter co, got turned into laminated
place-mats which I sent a few to Joey.

I also did another one based upon Joeys Photography, which also got turned into laminated place-mats, a few went to Joey, and he sent one to his Mom for her table as well.

One of the "ROYAL STANDARD" place-mats, is now on one of Dave DiFalcos tool cabinets.
Thanks from Dennis, for posting that magnificent piece of artwork!

Nice idea to put here where later model stuff can show - however site will get huge. Can I suggest every so often a moderator go thru & delete all comments/non art posting. Maybe anything older then a month. Then anyone can page thru to see only art until recent comments

    Hey @AmishMike
I think it goes with out saying, the mods, try to do a job of trying to keep this place inline, but I also assume that they don't get paid for the time they devote to the HAMB.

I think at this point, sure any suggestions as to the future of how the (FAS) is displayed, will be looked at, but I think its a bit too early to ask the mods to do any special modifications to this forum, but hey, I know nothing about the behind the scenes of how this all works, in regard to what you suggested!
    Thanks from Dennis.

lets just play it by ear and see how it goes. If you are worried about bandwidth just look at how gigantic the vintage shot from days gone by thread is... might actually be kinda nice to have all of the art archived right here , easy to find??

I've always thought that would be a great idea to have them all together in one place....I'm sure it'll get figured out and be all good once we get used to it.

  26. So this is where everyone is hanging out these days. Life forces me to miss a few FAS and you change things around on me. Might work better for me though, no more stressing Friday deadlines and posting up whenever I have something new to share.

Thanks Dennis - so much character and story to that car!
Such a cool use of your art being used for the placemats; good stuff.
