The Cinerama Dome on Sunset Blvd. Hello, As we were in our cruising mode all over So Cal, that included going up to Hollywood several times. The times during the winter season was to see the famous Hollywood and Vine corner during Christmas Vacation. The other time was to go to the afternoon showing of “It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.” The comedy was close to home for us, as a lot of the scenes were taken in downtown Long Beach, including where my brother bought his 58 Impala and I bought my 65 El Camino in the last month before they moved closer to Lion’s Dragstrip near the 405 freeway. Cormier Chevrolet. Then in 1968, my wife and I were just married and went to a lot of movies in Hollywood, as well as the rock concerts. So, the one movie to see the in 1968 was “2001: The Space Odyssey.” It was the longest waiting line in our history during this year. Since it was in the afternoon, the sun was angled to give most of us shade as it started to set.. The line went around the block and took, forever to get in. But, we were 20 somethings and the wait was nice, since we met a lot of nice young folks like us from all over So Cal. It was nearing the end of the “Summer of Love” time line. Art work by George Townley Jnaki The year before, we also waited in a long line, almost as long, but worse, since it was for the 2:00pm matinee. And it was hot. So, most of us were in summer clothes and it still was hot. I kept looking around to solve the problem and came up with my idea. The line wasn’t moving until close to 2:00 p.m. so, I ran across a busy Wilshire Blvd. to get us a couple of cold frosty Cokes. As soon as I came back with a bag and the two cold Cokes, a mad rush of “boys to men” dashed across the street to do the same for their wants.
