I’m reading through the rust, but if I’m correct it’s T0911HC. That engine was assembled in Tonawanda, NY on Sept. 11th. If it was built in ‘65 through ‘68 it’s a 327, ‘69 it’s a 350. Check the casting numbers on the block as seen above the bell housing flange to ID the year. ‘65 would be a 250 horse engine, ‘66 -‘68 was 275 horse and if a ‘69 250 horse.
Those charts can be less than fully accurate, such as the first one, (1965) calls out full size/Camaro.
The chart is accurate for the years it shows, the HC suffix was used in Full Size in 65-68, then in A (chevelle) F(camaro) and X(nova) in 1969.
I'll say it's pre '68...1965 to 1967 because there isn't a partial vin on the pad. Assuming of course that it isn't an over the counter engine which would be very unusual.
The chart I referenced shows the 327’s as all 4 barrel carbs, Power Glide, fitted to PA, passenger cars. The 350 was a 2 barrel, manual transmission and the applications were as follows CA, CH, EC, NO, Camaro, Chevelle, El Camino, Nova.
The pre 68 327 will have a small journal block and the 69 engine will have a big journal block. I'm just learning this new computer so all I can do is post the link to a very similar discussion that has detailed information on it Technical - Chevy 327 crankshaft question can not find a flywheel that fits! HELP!!!! | Page 2 | The H.A.M.B. The crankshaft flange ID photos and drawings are what may be quick outside of the block casting number on the rear corner.
i couldn't get pics of the rear, and as you can see it's got a 2 barrel carb and hooked to a 3 spd OD. thanks to all for responding.
could be a mish-mash of parts...probably the original 58 intake and carb put on the later engine. looks like 327 heads under there, which would not have been used with a 2bbl originally.
Right. A guy gave me a 283 a few years ago just to get it out of his way, and it ended up being a '61 block with a pair of '59 power pack heads and a '64 2 bbl. intake. It also had a '57-'61 style factory dual point distributor stuck in it.
