    Mark,
I've had a couple, but I've never run one. The ones I've had were 7:1 compression ratio with a crowsfoot type chamber. I wouldn't think you would see any difference in performance between the Winfield and the Cyclone. Unless your Winfield does not have a Crowsfoot combustion chamber.

Thanks for the information and pictures Dan.

There doesn't seem to be too much difference in the combustion chamber design between the two heads.

My cast iron 6.8:1 Winfield head is fine.
    Fortunately.

A lot of people believe that you are better off with the cast iron head than an aluminum head.

Due to heat distribution? dissimilar metals? Expansion rates?

  6. This one just popped up for sale locally. Weird to see a Gallican actually in a car! IMG_1085.jpeg IMG_1086.jpeg IMG_1087.jpeg

  7. In my opinion there was not enough knowledge in alum casting
Many of the alum Winfield copied heads did not increase the wall thickness to compensate for the reduction in material strength
Heads designed with aluminum in mind are very good such as the Brierley

  8. To quote the legendary Ed Winfield:

"If you want to boil water, aluminum is best. If you want power, iron is best."

This makes the most sense of the reason's I've been given, thanks for the insight John

I was going to quote this statement...

I had a 6:1 iron Lion IV on my first banger 20 years ago, it was the only one in stock at the time & I painted it silver to to stir people up :p

Ed was probably correct in his context (the engines, era, general engineering knowledge, etc) but modern aluminum OHV heads allow higher compression ratios without detonation. I note that the flathead bangers were pretty good at boiling water too.

I've been driving the model t pretty often, still running pretty good.
    I haven't change the oil.
    I don't see an aftermarket/remote filter..
I really have to change the fluids and clean the cooling system.
Also gotta detail the engine but I've been busy fixing my coe.
I ordered new plugs and bought oil.

The 4E4 Club Lakester will return to Bville this year. Over the years the club has owned several cars, roadsters, lakesters and dragsters. Club members are free to use them to run engines they have built. It ran in May at ElMirage on licensing runs for the guy who will be taking it to Bville. It still has Jim Brierley's turboed Cook in it.

Been a while since I stopped by. Always inspired by the radness in these threads! Thanks.
Recently had a hot and involved weekend with my McLaughlin. Ongoing and multiple water pump failures called for: moderate tear down + component rebuild (re-think.)
New super stealth waterpump solution apears to be working well. 20250525_150305.jpg 20250527_122536.jpg 20250525_131911.jpg 20250601_155811.jpg

That's an interesting car, what's the engine? Looks to be mid/late teens?

I assume Tod stopped his Banger project when Burtz took off?

  26. Playing around with an idea that I had.. Going to test the thermal capabilities of ABS Plastic, by 3D printing a terminal box and running it! Everything will be custom, down to the external nuts! 2.png 1.png

  27. 110 in my garage, Trying to remove Stock T cam from block. Aftermarket distributor, Gentleman Who built it used a threaded Allen screw to secure the drive gear on the nose of the cam and stripped out the Allen key side. Even after cleaning and soaking it still looks like a split pin. Could get it 80% off And then just stopped. Try to get it off, after an hour, Lost my temper managed to bend the nose of the camshaft, Not my proudest moment. Drilled through from the backside and pushed it out. Went to finish removing the cam and being in such a shitty mood, Didn’t notice that one of the lifters was still stuck up (After pulling the valves). Bent that. All in all pretty crappy day. Found a nice gentleman with the machine shop here in town that was able to straighten the nose of the cam. He’s also doing the finish machine work on my cross drive back set up, Installing a Vernier coupler for me. Years back I picked up a really nice set of gears from Dan McEachern, But I think I asked him to make them specific for an A cam into a T block Or I lost part, at this point, I just don’t know.

Todd was on here talking about the process, he was designing a new banger engine. Burtz beat him to the line. Not sure what happened to his project. Someone here will know
