I love that a 21 year old guy would buy that car and be excited to rebuild the straight 8. Would be very cool with the '41 "compound carburetion" dual carb setup, and a stick. Never was fond of the Dynaflow.

A while back I photoshopped what one of these would look like converted into a 2 door sedan using Sedanette doors but keeping the current roof and rear window, and I really liked the results, I wish I still had that picture somewhere. It would be pretty simple to do, if you could find the doors and maybe the B pillars out of the fastback. A one-of-none 2 door sedan Special with a built straight 8 would be pretty cool.

He’s not 15 anymore. We spent 2 years building it. He’s 21 now.

A simple upgrade would be a Roadmaster carburetor. Same bolt pattern, but the throttle plates are 1/4 of an inch larger in diameter.

  7. A super should have a bigger motor than the special, Supers usually (depending on the year) shared the Roadmaster powertrain.

  8. NEVER in the Straight Eight era. After 1953 and the Nailhead V8, yes.

Nope. The Super generally shared the smaller motor with the Special. When they did put the big engine in the small body, it was called the Century.

probably because those cars were never considered to be traditional street driven hotrods. they were slow, sluggish and underpowered. the opposite of a hotrod

Yea, there is that. :D But, at least it doesn't have a bunch of new parts on it and knowing Colby, it won't when he is done either.

Dont forget Expensive! I had the 320 (1947 engine) for my '37 coupe rebuilt a year ago and it was about $9k, but i also had the babbit rods converted to insert bearings. Factory changed to insert bearings around 48 or 49, so he might be good to go in that respect.
When i got my car, it had no engine or trans, and i kind of decided i would go with whatever i found first with the choices being nailhead and muncie or straight 8, and i found the correct displacement, slightly newer engine a few towns over, so i went that route. Im glad i did, its something different than what im used to being around, but they are cool looking and honestly, just the size of this thing is funny enough. May not be a big crazy powerhouse, but im getting antsy inching closer to being able to start it and hear my engine run in the car.
I have a few of the smaller engine dual carburetor intakes, i think one is cracked though and the carburetors need to be gone through.
i am building my own intake and exhaust for my 320, maaaybe sort of regret it where its added a bunch of time, effort and money to this project, but a boy needs a hobby, and seeing 12 tubes all lined up in a row is kind of cool! Im finishing this up in the next week or so and getting it cerakoted, just getting it all cleaned up and making sure i dont need any more provisions for things

(the exhaust was painted black but i sanded it off so it looks a little grimey) 3201.jpg 3202.jpg
