Technical Buick nailhead spark plug wire covers

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by deucepickup32, Jun 20, 2025.

  1. Managed to find a pair plus a single on marketplace. Going on my Vicky with a 401. Does anyone have pics of how they install as in where to secure the brackets that I will make.

Isn't there a threaded hole or head bolt in line with the holes in the covers?

I made my own brackets for the finned Weiand covers on my 401 but you can buy them from Russ Martin at Centerville. Have a look at his website. Made mine out of a bit of steel bar with a Nutsert
@BJR I think that only applies to the early engines which had the plug wire covers as standard

On my 322 there are threaded holes in the head. Install studs in these holes. They line up with the holes in the covers. These holes go into the water jackets. If the 401 is the same there will be bolts in the holes to prevent coolant from leaking. Remove the bolts and install the studs.

I made my own brackets for my 425.
Not a big project. The brackets fit on the head bolts.

Yes, Buick only used them from 1953-56, and the '53 covers differ from the '54-'56.

  10. Do you know what the difference is ?

Check out Russ Martin, he sells a nice adapter kit to fit the early plug covers on the later Nailheads.
