Art & Inspiration Interesting inexpensive Craigslist cars

  1. I'm guessing that those are Tree of Heaven trees in #2032. I have them in my backyard- they are very prolific.

  2. Can someone please identify the year and model of the blue car? I just saw the second picture and I say that's the Hudson sedan, but I'm not sure about the rear view .

Those "Nash Neapolitan"s are actually Rambler Country Club hardtops, another super bargain from someone who doesn't really know what cars they have. Excellent price from the seller though, that's another deal that I'd be on if it was anywhere close to local.

I think I read somewhere that both trees in Kansas are Osage Orange.

  7. Approved! I think I saw a cottonwood in a Kansas gully.
I'd love to have that Hudson truck but the thought of what it would take to bring it back to drivable makes me blanch.

  8. If the structure's not rusty, I imagine it wouldn't be that hard to make it into a driver. I would swap an engine, transmission, and possibly a rear end into it while trying not to do "irreversible damage," as in it could easily be taken back to original/stock condition. There's a thread on here where someone adapted front disc brakes to one.

It's fairly local and I think I even know where they are from the last time I went to PHX.
If I didn't already have too many cars including 3 back burner projects inside plus the ongoing running project, I would have already called. ;)
I may have holes in my head, but they aren't big enough for 2 more cars!

Those cars in the pictures with the Hudson pickup are in CA. Ca is a long way from Kansas.
I wonder if the guy has a way to move stuff around so you could load up your cheaply purchased prize?

If you read a few posts you'll get the tree thing. We know where the cars are. Almost too close.
I know a guy with one of those that has a built 292 Chevy six. My engine choice would be a Hudson 308 Twin Power.

Osage orange is the primo fire wood in Kansas. Also used for fence posts. Also known as "hedge", as it was imported to grow nasty hedge rows with thorns to keep the cows in. Sort of the precursor to fencing. Class dismissed.

It was also the wood that Native Americans favored for bow making for it's flexing properties, I've been told.

Our place in the Texas Panhandle was fenced with Osage Orange post nearly 100 years old. Dad called them Bodark. You had to find a crack to drive a staple in. That is some tough stuff. Wish I had a couple of truck loads. Our other place was fenced with Cedar out of Palo Duro Canyon. Palo Duro is Spanish for hard stick (club). Indians used it for bows too. The same tree here is called Mountain Juniper. I have made posts of it that are almost 50 years old. Need to find a way to include some in the wood in my '26 Chevy roadster. It would smell good.

If this isn't in the right place, I'm sorry, but it fits right into this discussion. A few years back, I was in Raleigh, NC on business. While I was there, I heard about a car that a guy named Joe Harmon was building almost completely out of wood. Power source was an OT Caddy Northstar. One of the things that he did was use laminated Bois d'arc, (bodark, Osage Orange) for the springs. It's some tough stuff.

Don't know if it is the right place but it interesting and sorta fits with the tree jokes that started this mostly off topic wood rant.

I had 3 huge Osage Orange trees fall , healthy trees . They looked as they sprouted from one trunk . All 3 about 4 diameter trunks , 25-30 ft tall . I cut many trailer loads from it and plenty remaining . I ended up in the hospital for 4 days with pulled stomach muscles . The blocks were so heavy I could not pick them up , had to 1/4 them . Not a good thing to have to do all day with saw with 24 in bar .

1924 Ford model t bucket roadster 1950/60s True Beach Boys Mod
    $7,200
Listed a day ago in Chino Valley, AZ
    [IMG]

Located in Chino Valley, Az 86323. By appointment only please. AZ Title VIN 10842884 1924 Ford Model T bucket. Owned by 2 for over 40 years after extensive already done 1950s/1960s heavy duty mods long ago. Truly a 1960s possibly 50s “Beach Boys Era” mod (see welds at traction control arms and strong Chevy axle) older job nicely done. We wish we had a shoe box of polaroids and of course each owner has put their own spin here and there. Today we have a 1968 Chevy 350 4BBL auto running nicely on a turbo 350 trans. We do not know the Chevy axle ratio at this time. Car is complete but without front brakes or front brake shoe/hardware. Dune buggy rear braking methods is highly preferred (rear brakes only folks). Lots of new engine parts for a running vehicle for letting this gem go today. Serious inquiries please as this vehicle was not a babyboomer weekend of fun as evidence of fabrications still remain and are extremely thought out of high quality steel long ago. Trans weep (storage).
