Hello, As teens, we were lucky that in Bixby Knolls, there was a small, but very well stocked chrome shop with all of the accessories one could need. It was located in a portion of Cherry Avenue, near the midnight drags location. So, along with other hot rod services, machining, wheel balance/alignment, welding, custom tire shop, auto parts stores, a couple of small hot rod shops. It was a teenage one stop area that was very popular. If the chrome accessory shop did not have it, then several blocks away farther into the industrial area, was an actual chrome plating service. So, if it was not for sale, it could be chromed, nearby. But, the above photo shows another nearby chrome shop called Dave’s Home of Chrome. We usually called it House of Chrome, as it sounded better. We also got the idea that they wanted a catchy/matchy slogan, home/chrome, etc. It was located about 6 miles north of our Bixby Knolls location. So, if one local shop did not have it or what, then a short hop to the Compton, CA shop was a fast drive. Jnaki We knew about most custom shops around us and also the hot rod build shops, as well as most speed shops. At the local car shows, those places always had a booth or two and we all noticed the “goodies” on display. Note: When we drove by those local locations and the “Home of Chrome” location late at night, it was like looking at an empty shop with the painted signs still showing what it was. All of the shiny stuff that the staff hung outside, was now taken down after closing. So, the shops looked like a ghost town. YRMV The next day procedure is to hang all of those shiny chrome items one by one until all nails were full of the goodies… Yikes…
