I never liked those dainty nuts that come with these toggle switches so I whittled up my own from some stainless steel hex stock. I added a little shoulder to locate it more securely in the dash.

Did that start life as a store-bought nut that you modified on a lathe?

OR did you manufacture it from scratch?

Excellent question. I edited my post to clarify I made them from scratch and add a picture of the part in progress. When I bought the switches I actually ordered the ‘thicker style’ knurled nuts, which were a disappointment. I did find standard ones but they were pricey and would still need some machine work. I don’t remember seeing too many options for a 15/32-32 thread nut lol.

    Nicely done.

Now I see the tap you used. I had missed that before.

  5. I searched for my exhaust knock at idle, you'd think a solid mounted engine wouldn't have a whole lot of movement to it, but there's enough.

  7. They have a gusset on the bottom, the fenderwell headers are what's moving/shaking at idle.

  8. As it sits, almost time for tear down, fab work complete everything fits the way I like it. Check out my build album.

Jetted down the carb and replaced the power valve. Need to replace the sparkplugs down to R43's and confirm the timing. Chasing a funky spot at about 2800 RPMs on the 283.

  13. I dug out my windshield wipers I took off 30+ years ago and fitted them back on the 41.
I particularly don't like the look but at least no water will go down the holes in the cab anymore.

  14. Today I put a little elbow grease towards the 41's aluminum, spit shine style

    20250703_141149.jpg

Then hit up one of the local cruise nights with the Henry J

  15. 0704252017.jpg Unfortunately today I did not get to work on my car but I did waste 4th of July sweating on the side of my house wondering why my easy up is slowly getting holes in it Anyways I got the engine installed in the car... I kept going back and forth if I was going to make it a stock model A engine and then build it or just put the built one in it to begin with But because this is my first banger project I've got a scratch this itch and I want to do it stock And then see how much of an improvement higher compression, a cam, a downdraft intake and all that other erasmatazz actually makes these perform better.
So here is my car as of July 4th at about 8:30 p.m. as my neighbors are just starting to light fireworks off tomorrow is Sunday the 6th and I'm going to work on it some more. I am shooting for this car to be drivable by Labor Day I don't know if that is obtainable or not because I get distracted pretty easy by shiny objects but here's my progress thus far

  16. I pulled the single adjustable Koni coil overs off the Henry J to replace the springs and I had forgotten that they were different from a standard coil over.

    20250706_132632.jpg

After a few attempts at compressing the springs I said screw it and ordered new double adjustable shocks. Sometimes you just never know where things are going to lead.
I did get the 41 inspected yesterday so now I can street flog it without worry of getting ticketed for an expired anual inspection, the sticker on it had expired 6 years ago. Lol

Tried my hand at the acetylene smoke trick for the first time. It's my son's Triumph tank. Clearcoat to come.

  20. Today I redid my newly installed new coilovers to get another inch of throw on the shocks. It's not perfectly centered between the extension and compression but it's pretty damn close.
I'm sure it'll move a bit after the test drive anyhow and I'll be back under there further dialing it in.

  21. Damn, James! Nice work.
I've about finished wiring my '29 AA and will probably start it up for the first time in a week or two. Got to change out the brake light switch, which isn't working (hydraulic switch that everyone says will fail sooner than later). Once I spin the oil pump to try to push some pressure through the 351W oiling system I'll spin the motor with the plugs out to get everything lubed prior to connecting the carburetor with the accelerator pedal and hooking up the TV cable to the carburetor. Then it's time to test it all out. Maybe before August? Damned heat and humidity looks to become unbearable for the next few weeks.

Finished. Good enough for an old Triumph.

Couldn't resist adding a little Spindrift flake too.
    upload_2025-7-17_15-51-39.png
It's Black. With HOK Gold base graphics. Then acetylene smoke. HOK Candy Tangerine over that. Urethane clear with the flake. Other than the black, the paint I used is VERY old.

I built one similar to that for a 84 Camaro to be able to run the exhaust from the headers back.

My Nova is pretty low, nothing I hate worse than the sound of expensive mufflers scraping pavement.

She moves under her own power, so why not see if it does burnouts? No real need for brakes for this experiment.

  28. I made that access panel to cover the hole in the floor for the master cylinder on the 41 pickup, damn hole was like a blast furnace on my leg.

    20250719_185852.jpg

Then I made up these little cables to hold my hood pins and keep them from disappearing. I had cut the pins down so the rings had an interference fit over the ends to keep them from walking out by themselves but I still didn't trust it.

The bead in the MC cover is a nice touch.

How did you get the wiring terminal onto the ring?

osage orange and swade41 like this.
  30. I chucked a chisel in the vice, slipped the ring over the chisel, then put an awl on the other side of the ring and pulled it out of that little block. It put up a fight but I was able to get one side out just enough to slip the terminal end in there.
